The Dalai Lama was exiled because China is not a democracy and doesn't vote on freedom.Tibet should be free if it wants to be free by the majority of Tibetans(which it seems to be that way). Tibet was free centuries ago and just like India peaceful protested against the British Empire in first half of 20th Century,they are peacefully protesting for freedom.
Tibetans are also a seperate ethnic group, they are not Chinese and do not share a common culture. Also who would want to live in China,when they are treated as second class citizens.
