In January, President Macron announced the establishment of a "strategic security partnership" between Paris and Athens. Partnership which will notably result in an increased presence of French Navy vessels in the eastern Mediterranean.

On May 11, at a hearing in the National Assembly, the Minister of the Armed Forces, Florence Parly, spoke about the situation in the eastern Mediterranean.

“With regard to Greece, […] I am in constant contact with my Greek counterpart. We have means of the French Navy […] mobilized in the Eastern Mediterranean which can help to secure, if necessary, the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus, which is an area in which there are regular disputes on the part from Turkey, ”said the minister.

Why would/should France control the channel ? Is there any need to do so ? Is it a disputed/conflict area ? There are few patrol boats dedicated to the channel (Navy and Gendarmerie) nothing else.

only the UK,Turkey and Greece have rights over Cyprus as guarantor countries of 1959 Zurich agreement

When i meant they can't control the channel i was referring migrants freely crossing the channel on dinghies.

If they can't control whats around their own borders how will they secure the eez of cyprus?

By deploying military means to those areas it means France doesn't actually care or recognize Turkey's sovereignty claims in eastern Mediterranean. That says everything.
