According to well connected French financial newspaper La Tribune, France is proposing four more vessels to the Egyptian Navy: Two more Gowind class corvettes, one OPV and another patrol vessel.

If the proposal is accepted, the Egyptian Navy would have 11 french-built vessels in its fleet.

Over the last year DCNS has established strategic relations with Egypt in the frame of the modernisation of the country’s surface fleet. France and DCNS sold a FREMM multi-mission frigate in February 2015 and fourGowind 2500 corvettes in July 2014. More recently, it was announced that DCNS would deliver the two fromer Russia bound Mistral class LHDs to Egypt.

The two extra corvettes being propose would joint the existing four on order. According to DCNS, the Gowind 2500 is a reference product on the worldwide corvette market. This vessel responds to the needs of navies to have access to a complete and multi-mission combat vessel for sovereignty and maritime protection operations and the fight against illicit trafficking. Ten corvettes have already been ordered: Malaysia (6 units)and Egypt (4 units).

According to La Tribune, the Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) being proposed to the Egyptian Navy is the DCNS-built L'Adroit. OPV Gowind L’Adroit was built under a self-funded DCNS programme in conjunction with equipment manufacturers contributing high-performance products. OPV Gowind L’Adroit is currently leased to the French Navy so that it can evaluate the ship and its systems.

Some of the companies involved in the program includes:
- Schiebel Elektronische Geraete GmbH who equips l’Adroit with the CAMCOPTER®
- TERMA A/S who provides the naval surveillance radar systems
- Sagem provides the EOMS NG multifunction optronic equipment to ensure the ship’s close self-defense within a single system, and SIGMA 40D ring-laser-gyro inertial system for the ship’s navigation and combat system.
- LINKSrechts provides an helicopter Visual Landing aid system
- LACROIX Defence & Security provides the decoy system
- The Thales systems installed on board the OPV ensure intelligence-gathering functions (Altesse and Vigile LW) and operational communications (over HF, UHF and satellite).
- FLIR supplies a gyrostabilised platform FLIR TALON to detect targets night and day.
- Zodiac MILPRO provides two Hurricane Ribs

PIRIOU OPV50 offshore patrol vessel ordered by the Gabonese Navy.

The fourth vessel would be built by French shipyard Piriou. It would likely come from the Kership range. Kership is held jointly by Piriou (55%) and DCNS (45%).

The patrol vessel could be an OPV50. This type was ordered by the Gabonese Navy during Euronaval 2014and is the first export success for the newly created joint company Kership.

Offshore patrol vessel OPV50 is a versatile 58-metre ship developed by KERSHIP to undertake various missions related to State Action at Sea. OPV50's major innovations and features include very versatile design that facilitates reorganization to suit the mission; large bridge with 360° view; rapid deployment/retrieval ramp for 2 launches (7 m RHIBs); range of 5,000 nautical miles and excellent sea-keeping qualities.

But Piriou and Kership offer many more patrol vessel designs, some of which you may see at this link. It is not clear yet which design is actually being proposed to the Egyptian Navy.

I don't think the egyptian navy would buy the (OPV) with its current capableties especially when we can produce/coproduce the gowind corvette locally.

Different class of vessel altogether. Could be a good step especially if more are procured or produced under licence. They would complement the Ambassadors quite well and will allow older types in the fleet to be retired.

.
Egypt received $42 billions from the Saudis and UAE for bombing raids in Syria without nay boots on the ground.. So they are now shopping spree buying war toys. While Saudi is begging Pakistan to send troops to Syria with boots on the ground and do real fighting and offered paltry $10 billion. These Saudis have still not learned that Pakistan will not fight in sectarian wars and their discriminatory policy of compensation is wrong to.

The ship with its current capableties is only good for coastal defence duties against smugglers which can be done with other vessels for a fraction of the cost. It would be a good deal if the egyptian navy sponsored a programme to develop the vessel more and add more capableties and given that the project is self funded by dcns and that the French/other states aren't interested in the vessel yet it would be much easier to negotiate

A fraction of the cost and fraction of the capability. That simply isn't acceptable when we're seeing far more sophisticated smuggling attempts on a regular basis.

Actually figuring out total costs is a difficult process, older vessels may very well be more expensive to keep in service on the long run due to amount of maintenance required and perhaps the need for a retrofit or upgrade.

It would be good, but at the same time expensive as we would be the only party investing in the system.

. . .
What about the satellites..!?
@FrenchPilot

Negotiations will go on for a while considering they are big ticket items. As for the ships I think the EN will snap them up.

I want something else

The infantry hasn't been getting any love whatsoever! Which is sad since they need an overhaul in both equipment and training.

yes something that inspired me the most were the tales of our infantry and commandos in 73 war with the right tools and our numbers our infantry should be among the top 10 in the world

i am not too keen on the L'Adroit and the Gowind 1000 :undecided:

ı think all these ships releted with natural gas sources found in the east Mediterrenian sea.May be SISI want to balance the Egyptian navy's force to other countries.Especially for Turkey and Russia ı guess. Turkey didnt accept the agreements between Egypt,Greece,Cyprus,Israel.Turkey has sent Turkish navy before the intervantion of Russians to Syrian conflict.Russians sent too.Now all the bigs there and shows the flag.Egypt not good in economic position and the money for economic support which Sisi spent came from UAE and Saudi Arabia mostly .This cant be done without permissions of money owners. They want to show their flag via Egypt.Sisi has a chance to spent UAE and Saudi money for the security of natural gas sources in the mediterrenian sea .Good move but not enough.

A fraction of the capability is all we need I think. The thing is already expensive and we haven't bought the piece that makes the vessel Unique which is the helicopter.
if we can negotiate a transfer of technology and start locally producing it. It would be worth the expense.

The area of natural gas reserves is facing Egypt coast..so Navy plans can be there as well.....also you have to know that Egyptian Navy is a super power in the ME standards and with the coming Mistrals ,Fremm and subs...it will maintain its power only after Turkey.....considering that Turkey Navy still need a reserve on the Black Sea and facing Greece coasts also.
