The French president François Hollande has taken the opportunity to tell British voters of the dangers of Brexit on the eve of the referendum.

France would see Britain's exit from the European Union as "irreversible" if the Leave camp wins Thursday's referendum, President Francois Hollande said.

"It's more than the future of the United Kingdom that is at stake, it's the future of the European Union," Hollande said, before announcing a trip to Berlin next week ti discuss the fallout from the vote with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

A Brexit would "necessarily have extremely serious consequences," he added warning that a Brexit would put Britain at "very serious risk" of losing access to the bloc's single market.

Hollande was speaking on the eve of the EU referendum in the UK, which will decide whether or not Britain remains a member of the European union.

French politicians have been eager to stay out of the campaigning up until now, not wanting to come across as interfering int British affairs, which may antagonise voters.

However Hollande's words of warning are echoes of previous cautionary tales offered up by himself and other members of the French government.

Earlier this year the president warned that there would be "consequences" for how migration was managed after meeting Prime Minister David Cameron for an Anglo-French summit in northern France.

"I don't want to scare you but to tell the truth, there will be consequences... including on the question of people... the way in which we manage migration issues," he told reporters.

Under the 2003 Le Touquet border treaty, Britain is allowed to carry out border checks on French soil, stopping many migrants.

Earlier that day France's Economy Minister Emmanuel Macron caused a storm when he suggested that the "Jungle" migrant camp would end up on the English side of the Channel if Britain voted to leave the UK.

I hope french stir trouble in england in old style. Arming the IRA, Giving moral support to pro freedom scots etc etc

.
The French army will automatically become a dominating military power of the European Union. @Vauban Why are you against Brexit?

. .
The Brits have been ney sayers from the get go.They must leave if Europe should achieve its potential as a pole of power in this world. With the UK in ,the US will always object to closer integration such an EU Army, etc.

Ofcourse there is always the risk that some Western powers such as France or Germany could abandon EE to Russia, but,in the end we can't count on the US being here forever and if countries like France are not wise enough to keep the EU together and transform it into a player of his own on the world stage, they will not only doom us but them also.

I for one,a simple citizen,am willing to play the European card, but hopefully not with Tusk,Merkel,Juncker,Hollande at the helm in the coming future.Let's wait and see...

These aren't french children,but ROMA GYPSIES's.

We don't wish any troubles in the UK,we are just saying that there would be consequences, and the Le Touqet treaty would be one of them.

Giving moral support to pro freedom scots etc etc

If the UK leaves,I don't see the UK still being united, the scots are very europhiles and it is said that if the UK leaves the EU,it will re-open the question of the independence of Scotland.

The French army will automatically become a dominating military power of the European Union. @Vauban Why are you against Brexit?

It is up to the british people to choose, but for many reasons I wish they could stay, that the EU remains united and of course, the EU needs to evolute, the challenges, the minds are different from decades ago.

It is up for France and Germany to save the european union. @flamer84 @SMS Derfflinger

Sarkozy calls for French-German push to save Europe

After talks with Germany’s Angela Merkel, Sarkozy said, “I told the chancellor that to save Europe, there would have to be a French-German initiative in the coming months, with a new treaty that tells 450 million Europeans that we have heard what they are saying, that we understand how they feel.”

“I think that the chancellor is ready,” he said after a closed-door lunch, adding “that’s all the better as there will soon be elections in France that would be followed by polls in Germany”.

Even pro Europeans admit there's much wrong with the EU. But the answer is always "let's stay and reform it". The question is how? You cannot elect the commission. They don't listen to anybody. They're completely set in their ways and have no intention of changing. You have to look at the EU as it is not how you'd like it to be.

The treaty helps France as much as it helps us. If you let all the migrants in Calais move here then you might get some peace temporarily. But many more would follow their example and the flow would be never ending. Even if their final destination is here they will still cause much destruction along the way.
What you need to do is build a wall on the Italian border.

The issue is numbers not dislike of any particular nationality. I can see the flow getting even larger once the Eurozone has yet another crisis, and when the refugees in Germany get citizenship.

We are deeply attached to the freedom of movement within the EU,and I don't want to see walls everywhere....
The thing we should do is to protect our exterior borders and to ensure that no illegal migrants are entering our territory.... now it's time for countries like Italy to send the boat people back instead of picking them off the libyan coasts...
-
Anyway for the moment, the migrants trying to enter the french territory from Italy are being sent back by the Gendarmerie as there are now border controls thanks for the 13/11 attacks and the current euro event. They are stuck at Vintimille (italian city).

PLEASE,
vote leave.

Come on Britain! Let's show the world how GREAT Great Britain really is!
Leave this socialist shithole!

This '£350 million a week' figure is total BS and has been proved to be wrong many times.

And I can say GET LOST!!!!!!!!!!

Here is a better symbol that the French establishment will remember.

800px-Uwot.jpg

As for those Somalians the bulk of those arrived through EU passports i.e. Dutch, Swedish, courtesy of the EU's wonderful freedom of movement rules.
We won't be having that anymore if we vote Brexit.

Keep the threats coming, more people will vote out.

On the one hand, it is possible that the UK’s membership of the EU would be replaced by an association agreement of some kind that included free movement. Norway and Switzerland, for example, have both implemented free movement as part of their economic cooperation agreements with the EU. If this happened in the UK, the impacts of Brexit on UK migration could be relatively limited.
