The Five Evils & Moral Values

More than being minds pure, our actions should be pure. Our minds can wander, and that’s fine, so long as we don’t act on those wandering thoughts. Control, of Kaam (lust), Krodh (anger), Moh (attachment), Lobh (greed) and Hankaar (false pride) is far more important.

Does Pakistan have the death penalty? Will a crime of this nature fall under the death penalty if it still is being implemented in Pakistan ?

The Penal Codes and Punishment are the same as for India, they were handed to us by the British. But that was relevant in the 1800s now its 21st century, but still we don't have the brains to change them.

Section 302 for Murder carries death penalty

Section 376 for Rape.

I know it may sound stupid, but I am not in favor of Capital punishment.

Not in favor of capital punishment? why not?

I believe Indian Supreme Court had ruled that death sentence be reserved for the 'rarest of rare' cases.

I strongly believe that this qualifies as a 'rarest of rare' case and the person should be held accountable (after a fair trial, ofcourse).

I mean killing a person for his sin means we are doing a sort of sin ourself, also how would the culprit realize his misdeeds if he was not to suffer for it?
Now UK and Canada have abolished capital punishment.

I used to feel the same way but then that was when i thought the world was a nicer place then it really is. There are people who are sick or misguided where trial, jail and rehabilitation has a role.

There are some that are simply so different/evil in their thinking that they no longer can be regarded as human, killing them is no more a sin than putting down a rabid dog

Ok, let us be clear, we are not punishing anyone for committing a "sin", he is being punished for committing a "crime". If there is a provision for capital punishment in the penal code and if there is any case that would befit the capital punishment, this would be it.

Besides inmates on death row spend years before the death sentence is carried out, that time would be good enough for him to realize his "sin" (as you call it) and think about it.

Just because UK and Canada have abolished doesn't necessarily mean it is the right thing to do.

@Everyone calling for chopping him off and skinning him alive,

You really don't have to go overboard with the punishment to show that you are truly disgusted by this act. I hope it is a heat of moment reaction and you guys don't really believe in reverting back to a medieval society.

While these are horrific crimes, I really don't see how discussion is advanced by starting threads on individual crimes such as these. We'll obviously have condemnations and all of that, but that is really not as useful or constructive as having broader discussions on social ills, crimes, national trends and ways to tackle these issues.

One could start hundreds of threads on gruesome violent crime in the US after all, but what purpose would that serve?

Thread closed, and I hope future posters will keep the suggestions above in mind.
