As the Indian government has not paved the road for a long time, four villages in Meghalaya want to come under Bangladesh. The Manipur-based online news outlet "FPSJ Review Arts and Politics" published a news item on Wednesday. According to the title of the report, the villagers of Meghalaya want to go under Bangladesh in the hope of a better life. The anger of the people of those four villages was also reported in the influential national daily Times of India.

Hingaria, Hurray, Lahalaine and Lasari - these four villages are home to 5,000 tribals of Meghalaya. Over the years, the roads in this region have become unusable and neglected. The villagers complained that the Indian administration did not respond to their repeated requests. Then recently they announced to join the movement. Not only roads but also mobile networks are not available in this area. There is no opportunity to get health care.

The Rambasis sat together in a meeting last Tuesday. There they decided to go under Bangladesh to draw the attention of the Indian government. "The lives of the people on the border are not important to any government," Kinzimon Ames, a local man, told reporters. We are only used to voting. If the government considers us to be truly Indian, then our problems should be fixed quickly. Otherwise the common man will have nothing to do.

We would also like to remind the readers that Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had expressed concern over the use of Bangladeshi mobile SIMs by members of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) deployed on the Indo-Bangladesh border in 2016. He was of the view that this could jeopardize India's national security.

He said Indian mobile companies were fined as soon as their networks crossed the border and entered Bangladesh. And that is why Indian companies are not so keen on setting up their mobile towers in international border areas. As a result, our BSF jawans deployed at the border are forced to use Bangladeshi mobile SIMs due to weak network. But it is also a major threat to India's security.

However, the network of Bangladeshi mobile companies is also available at the Indian border. But in that case Dhaka does not impose any fine on those companies. Sangma added, "It hurts a lot when I see our soldiers from across the country using international calls (Bangladesh) to talk to their family members."

Meghalaya opposition MP Don Cooper Roy took part in the discussion. He said many people in the state of Meghalaya on the Bangladesh-India border are using Bangladeshi SIM cards for communication. That is not the fault of the people, it is the fault of the government. He called upon the state government to improve the communication system of the border villages first.

People in border areas use Bangladeshi SIM cards to keep in touch with their families because there are no landlines in those areas and the Indian mobile phone network is not good. "I know the matter is illegal but I also have a Bangladeshi SIM card," he added.

Wow...this will be quite a predicament for the Sanghis.

Sanghi logic:

If you want to be an Indian, we will label you as a Bangladeshi and send you to Bangladesh
If you want to be a Bangladeshi, we will beat you and keep you in India

Indian Ghuspetia.

And they claim illegals BDeshis are working in India, when Indians living in border regions themselves want to be included in Bangladesh for the benefits.

Fact is India is massive and the government can't provide services to each and everyone, border regions especially are neglected.

Outcome : The above article.

Well - you can't blame Meghalayans. People look at their own interests. If Indian cell companies neglect them, what are they to do?

Meghalaya people can use our networks, which have far better coverage, I don't mind BSF folks using our SIMS either, which is monitored by the Bangladesh Govt. agencies. ;)

Indian cell companies are also rather kanjoos and don't want to spend money for infra.

The Blue dots are cell towers below. We're well covered. :-)

Bangladesh got early AMPS analog cell network (by Citycell) LONG before India ever did. Ditto for Digital cell network as well. And Ditto for Television Network, and color Television....I could go on...

in 1990 Hutchison Bangladesh Telecom Limited (HBTL) was incorporated in Bangladesh as a joint venture between BTL and Hutchison Telecommunications (Bangladesh) Limited. HBTL began commercial operation in Dhaka using the AMPS mobile technology in 1993 and became the 2nd cellular operator in South Asia (after Sri Lanka's Celltell, established in 1989). In those days - cellphones were so large and expensive that they had to be permanently installed in cars. Yet demand way outstripped supply.

How come laying roads come under the preview of Indian govt? They have to hold their local MLA and state govt to task, whichever party they might belong.

And then there are people whining as Indians and wet dreamers of Bangladeshis joining together to make fun of people misery.

Haha

to be or not to be

How come laying roads come under the preview of Indian govt?

looks like it's a disputed territory

I wish them good luck. I hope Indian govt take care of their problem.

Northeast India has always been the traditional hinterland and backyard of Bangladesh throughout history.

Those innocent villagers have just expressed this plain fact without trying to be politically correct.

Not only Meghalaya, if you take an opinion poll in Tripura its majority would like to join Bangladesh.

It seems these four villages are geographically more logical to be part of Bangladesh than India. So, India should act prudently and allow these four villages to join Bangladesh and be relieved from the trouble of developing infrastructure in such a remote areas thousands of km away from Delhi and spending it's valuable resource without much return.

these people actually live like Bangladeshi citizen and there is no border in that part. They even send their patientBD hospitals and some even send kid to school in BD

I feel bad for these people, but at the same time it is hilarious to listen to their media complaints about immigration from Bangladesh. It is clear that India does not care about folks living in the Chicken head. Despite the constant feel good narrative from the Indian media that Bangladeshis are desperate to migrate, Assam has a per capita GDP of $1199 and life expectancy of 63.9 a far cry from Bangladesh's per capita GDP of $2100 and life expectancy of 72. Assam and rest of the chicken head must be one of poorest and least developed place in the whole world. Yet somehow Bangladeshis are desperate, ignorance is a bliss.
