Four Pakistani soldiers dead, eight missing after checkpoint attack

Seeing the number of dead, wounded and missing, it means the terrorists attacked and destroyed a whole platoon post. The strength of the insurgents who attacked must therefore have been at least 50-75. So many terrorists getting together escaping the notice of the PA/intel agencies is a setback considering that the PA is on the offensive in the area.

It means the insurgents' capacity to launch small hit-and-run attacks hasn't diminished much in spite of Op Zarb-e- Azb. There's still a long way to go before these terror groups are destroyed.

RIP to the martyrs.

5 Soldiers including a Major are dead and 8 missing.

(Reuters) - Four Pakistani soldiers were killed and at least eight were missing after insurgents using rockets and grenades stormed a checkpoint overnight in the remote border region of North Waziristan, security sources said on Sunday.

The Pakistani military launched an operation to push the Taliban out of North Waziristan, their key stronghold, in June. Bases there were used by a variety of insurgent groups to stage deadly attacks in both Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Three military sources, who asked not to be identified, said a major was among those killed in the attack. Eleven men were wounded and between eight and 10 were missing, they said.

A curfew had been imposed in Datta Khel, where the attack took place, and soldiers were combing the area around the Spara Gher checkpoint for their missing comrades, the sources said.

The Taliban have captured Pakistani soldiers in the past. Sometimes they have been released or have escaped. In 2012, the Islamist group beheaded 17 soldiers and posted a video of the killings on the Internet.

The military launched the North Waziristan operation to flush out the militants on June 15, days after militants mounted a deadly assault on Pakistan's biggest airport.

The offensive followed months of futile attempts to hold peace talks between the new government of Nawaz Sharif and the insurgents.

The military says it has killed around 1,200 insurgents so far and arrested around 300. The area is closed to journalists unless they travel with the military and most of the civilian residents - around a million people - were also ordered to leave their homes until the offensive is over.

Don't talk like a moron! You need to inculcate the habit of reading your own Pakistani Newspapers and spend less time bashing India.

Here....

Sad news, Rest in peace.

Rest in peace, A soldier does not fight because he hates what's in front of him. He fights because he loves what he's left behind.

Lots of prayers for the soldiers who are held in captive. I hope they somehow get released or find way to escape.
RIP fallen.

and So the ground operation in shawal had begun or not yet?

What a stupid comment. Degrade the moral of which Pakistanis? Keyboard warriors of your like? Those Pakistanis who matter wouldn't get demoralized. They are too busy changing Pakistan for the better by tackling issues such as TTP terrorism in their country and dying for their nation. The remaining "India is the root of all our problems" bunch such as yourself can continue getting demoralized. After all, you stick to internet bashing and loud mouthing via the media. Change your name to ostrich :D

It is a bit lengthy but I will try to give a summary.

The rise of Islamic extremism in Pakistan took place during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. The fleeing Afghan refugees in Pakistan provided the manpower for indoctrination into radical Islam and later these camps became virtual jihad factories. The dictator in Pakistan that time, Zia Ul Haq I guess, allowed this to happen because he dreamt of using these jihadis against India. Further to that Taliban was created.

Things went smoothly until 9/11 when USA rained bombs and death on the Taliban and warned Pakistan to chose either Taliban or survival. Thanks to some sense of sanity they chose the latter. But Taliban took it as an act of betrayal and this present mess in Pakistan is a result of that.

Some elements in Pakistan still nourish the hope of using jihadis as a weapon against India. Therefore they do not wish to completely eliminate these proxy soldiers. If these jihadis die then who is going to fight as insurgents inside Kashmir? They cannot risk sending in regular soldiers.

Couple if things to be corrected in that.

After victory over soviets the mujahadeen became a politico - religious group which was called the taliban after their tribal leaders congregated in quetta.

Talibàn aspired to bring Islamic law in Afghanistan and ably supported by Pakistan took over afghanistan and unleashed the harsh laws that come under shariah on the people. It also became fertile ground for all militant extremist groups. AQ having actively participated in the afghan ops was highly regarded and went on to launch ops against western influence in the MEast. Attacks on US forces began and culminated in 9/11 which Muslim world at that time regarded it as a glorious victory of Islam over the western world.

US launched simultaneous campaigns against saddam on what happened to be a false pretext of wmds and against obl who they believed to be under taliban protection. This was when Pakistan was forcefully enrolled in the so called WOT which in reality happened to be a war on Islam and Pakistan pays the price to be the west's henchman in this war.

The Taliban came very late. After the Soviets left Afghanistan was a free for all where the winners would rule. There was civil war all around and in 1994/95 the Taliban with active backing of Pakistani army and ISI invaded Afghanistan.

AQ came into Afghanistan quiet late when the Taliban had already controlled 90% of the country barring the northern territories. AQ came around 1998/99. Two years later they did 9/11 and Taliban was staring at its own doom.

USA cannot wage a war on Islam even if they want to unless they depend on Russia to buy oil or use their own resources which for some reason they are unwilling to do so.
