Four killed as police fire on blasphemy protesters in Bangladesh

.
Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is the most precious to Allah among all the creation. Sure Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was the embodiment of forgiveness, kindness, and peace. He endured the insults and cruelty against him and forgave because that was the quality bestowed to him but that doesn't mean those insults were acceptable to his creator. Allah may forgive any transgressions against himself because that is between him and that transgressor but any insults against his beloved are off-limits.

So let’s leave the justice in allah’s hands. We aren’t Allah so imo we should stay away from people like this and have sabr

Police have sued 5,000 unidentified people for their alleged links to the clashes that left four people dead and about 100 others injured in Bhola's Borhanuddin Upazila after a blasphemous Facebook post from a hacked account sparked protests.

Police officials filed the case with the Borhanuddin Police Station, bdnews24.comreported.

Star Online Report

A tense situation is prevailing in Bhola town after a religious group today sought permission for holding a rally protesting yesterday’s clash but was denied as the local administration imposed a ban on rallies and meetings in the district.

Failing to get permission for the rally, Shorbodoliyo Muslim Oikkya Parishad placed a six-point demand at a press conference at Bhola Press Club around 11:30am.

Contacted, Deputy Commissioner Mohammed Masud Alam Siddique earlier said the ban was imposed on any meetings and rallies in the entire district of Bhola for an indefinite period to avert further tension.

At least four people were killed and more than a hundred others were injured yesterday as religious zealots clashed with police in Bhola’s Borhanuddin upazila over a hate conversation spread through Facebook’s messenger app.

A large number of law enforcers—Border Guard Bangladesh, Police and Rapid Action Battalion members—have been deployed in the area to keep the situation under control.

WHAT ARE THE DEMANDS?

Below are the demands placed by Shorbodoliyo Muslim Oikkya Parishad:

1. Withdraw the Superintendent of Police of Bhola district and Officer-in-charge of Borhanuddin Police Station and punish those who directed to open fire on Tawhidi Muslim.

2. Enact strict law for trying those who hurt Prophet (SM), Allah and Islam

3. Capital punishment of the Hindu youth what they claimed was responsible for the hate conversation against Prophet.

4. Provide compensation to the victims’ families who died in yesterday’s clash.

5. Bear the treatment expenses of the injured persons.

6. Unconditional release of those who were arrested yesterday in connection with the Bhola mayhem

THREE-DAY PROGRAMME

Mizanur Rahman, joint member secretary of the platform, read out the statement while Bashir Uddin, convener of the platform announced their next course of action.

The group announced to hold a demonstration in front of all police facilities of Bhola district tomorrow. They will also hold a human chain at Bhola Sadar Road on Thursday and will organise a Duaa Mahfil on Friday at Atkhola Mosque of Bhola.

They vowed to continued their protest until their demands are met.

WHAT HAPPENDED IN BHOLA YESTERDAY?

Tension grew in Borhanuddin upazila on Friday afternoon soon after the hate conversation was circulated allegedly from the youth’s Facebook account to some of his Facebook friends, said locals and police.

Around 8:00pm on Friday, the youth, a student of Bhola Government College, went to Borhanuddin Police Station and filed the GD. Police then took him in custody.

Throughout Saturday, a group of locals under the banner of “Sarbastorer Muslim Tawhidi Janata” staged demonstrations at the upazila headquarters, Kunjerhat and Borhanganj bazar, demanding trial of the youth.

From there, they announced holding a rally at the Eidgah Maidan at 11:00am yesterday and through loudspeakers urged people to join it.

Meanwhile, police and the local administration took initiatives to ease the simmering tension by engaging with religious leaders and local representatives, according to a statement of the police headquarters.

Law enforcers also kept the youth in custody as per demands of local Alems.

Even the representatives of the Alems called off their protest programme upon police’s assurance that necessary legal action would be taken, it said.

But a group of people started gathering at the Eidgah Maidan and a “quarter” set up 17 loudspeakers at different points of the Maidan yesterday morning, mentioned police.

The law enforcers, who had been at the spot since morning, requested the Alems there to clear the area, but the religious leaders said there would be no disorder.

In the meantime, members of a vested quarter entered the Eidgah Maidan and started inciting people. Without any provocation, a group of people then swooped on the officials staying in the room, said police in the statement.

Wielding firearms, members of the group attacked the officials and shot a policeman, leaving him seriously injured. The additional DIG and another police official also got injured said.

Under the circumstances, police fired teargas canisters and shotgun shells upon orders from the UNO and the executive magistrate in self-defence and to save public property.

Well, Blasphemy law should be removed. Whenever a so-called Blasphemer says something, that person should be replied to in a logical manner. The idea should be to win him over with logic instead of creating more hatred.

This page has two stories about the Messenger Muhammad when he was pestered by some people and how he chose to reply in a humane way. The present followers of Islam should emulate him on this rather than riot and lynch someone.

@Zibago @Mentee @RealNapster @Bilal9 @Moonlight @The_Showstopper

So we make fun on mob lynching in india but now same thing happening in bd? Brown ppl are all same...wont ever learn how to be civilized and respect law.

Agreed.

I have said it before and I will repeat it again. The matter of derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is the most sensitive issue of all. The death of all the blasphemers throughout history is a lesson to all human beings. Just don't indulge in such activity. I repeat just don't do it otherwise suffer the consequences because almost all those who made the mistake of doing so had to pay for it one way or the other.

Are you threatening physical violence?

. .
Try this as an immigrant in USA, Canada, UK, Ireland. And continue to do so for years, come day this again. The natives can discuss their issues and ridicule these issues time to time but the outsiders arent entertained in that scale. Same in BD, Muslim background people are tolerated to a scale but not the Hindus.

I can't speak for Canada, UK, and Europe, but you are dead wrong about the United States. The US Constitution applies to immigrants as well as US citizens and it's clear in protecting the free speech rights to criticize Jesus, the military, whomever.

Yes, jamahir, I deleted that post because HRK gave me a negative rating on it. You see, even a relatively mild post like that is rejected by the Islamist's here, which is why I don't post as much. It pains me that so many here can't just hear an honest opinion and then offer their reasoned counter opinion, instead of repressing my opinion.

Sticks and stones and it broke christianity so think about that.

It wasn't words, tbh. It was the take over by the Church and the resulting corruption brought about in the religion by it. Sort of like what the Mullah and we are doing today.

I fail to understand that if Islam is the absolute truth then why are these people so insecure about it? It can only be if they know that their own belief is weak. And also maybe because the modern illiterate Muslim is born with the emotional sensitivity of a 5 year old.

Tbh I wonder does/did prophet care at all? I mean people stoned him to pulp, cursed him, yet it didn’t bother him... even after he had good number of followers... that woman would set booby traps on his path and yet he went to see her when she got sick... tbh, this culture of avenging insults to prophet started after his death... imo if he was patient enough to leave it to allah, we should be too

No he did not. In fact, blasphemy laws weren't a thing until recently and rightly so since they are intrinsically un-Islamic. Islam guards the freedom of speech in religion of every non-Muslim, and otherwise for every Muslim as well. It has explicitly ordered the Muslims to ignore ridicule more than 50 times in the Quran itself. You and I have no right to enforce our religious insecurities on a non-Muslim.

This "culture of avenging insults to the Prophet (S.A.W)", frankly speaking, is the result of rampant illiteracy in the emotionally charged masses of the Subcontinent.

Yeah and He (S.W.T) sent you to speak on His behalf and exact His judgement, correct? Do you know the exact terminology in Islam for the sin that you have just committed?

So why dont common immigrant like you try to do these constantly for years and show us the example. Apart from commedians, show example how many non whites ridicule jesus in US openly. In BD these numbers are thousands. Do you think there are any audience for these in BD. BD is like 100 years behind any developed countries. For example by 1950 half of Americans owned cars and that number is minuscle in BD. BD has other things to focus on like education, development; instead of non productive bashing to something.

Do a Google search yourself and find out. After all, you made the claim. Give me an example of an immigrant in US who made fun of Jesus and was prosecuted for it.
