Four Indians among 15 dead as Taliban bombers attack Kabul

These attacks won't deter india in helping the Indians to rebuild Afganistan. May the souls of the people killed RIP.

It seems terrorist groups and their supporters are getting frustrated day by day as a result we are seeing bombings across the sub continent and Afganistan.

Premier Silvio Berlusconi hailed the Italian diplomat killed Friday in suicide attacks in Afghanistan as a faithful servant to the government who died doing his job.

The premier identified the slain diplomat as Pietro Antonio Colazzo.

Kabul Police Chief Abdul Rahman Rahman told reporters in the Afghan capital that Colazzo died a hero, phoning in tips to police about where the suicide bombers were located in a hotel frequented by foreigners.

"He was killed by the terrorists who realized that he was passing information to police forces," Rahman said. "He was in a room right behind the attackers and he could see where they were and what they are doing."

The Taliban claimed responsibility for Friday's attacks targeting hotels and killing at least 17 people and wounding dozens in the heart of Kabul.

The Foreign Ministry refused to comment on Rahman's report.

In a statement, Berlusconi said he "learned with sadness the news of the death of the diplomatic adviser Pietro Antonio Colazzo in today's attack in Kabul. A faithful servant of the state, who died doing his job in a country tormented by horrific terrorist acts."

Berlusconi said Italy was committed to protecting Afghanistan from such violence.

The Italian news agency ANSA said Colazzo was the No. 2 member of Italy's foreign intelligence agency, AISE, in Kabul and had been in the country for about two years.

Top Italian officials praised Colazzo for his service, with parliament speaker Gianfranco Fini lauding his "courage, professionalism and spirit of sacrifice" and that of all the Italians working in Afghanistan.

Italy has some 3,150 troops in Afghanistan. Since the conflict began, 22 Italians have been killed, including six killed last Sept. 17 in a roadside bombing in Italy's deadliest day yet in the conflict.

Friday's death sparked anew calls from Berlusconi's political opponents for an exit strategy for Italian troops.

The taliban's origins come from Oruzgan in 1994. The Soviet-Afghan war ended in the very late eighties. The taliban are an altogether different movement separated by the years and virtual exclusively pashtun.

I would ask you to also investigate war crimes committed by Northern Alliance --many of which there were and still are. Don't white-wash everything to have it in your favour without looking at the entire picture.






p.s. it appears that opium production in Northern Alliance-controlled areas are again on the rise.

YOur gov is doing the same thing. They are supporting the NATO in AFghanistan, they are letting their convoys pass pakistani soil to go to Afghanistan, they are allied to America on WOT, you get billions of dollars for all these. Indeed I concur with you. Show me where I've asserted otherwise and how their former participation in the Afghan-Soviet War constitutes U.S. support for the taliban?

No. It is a fact that a so-called think tank member should know unless you dispute that Omar and Baradar didn't form the initial elements which became the nat'l movement. Those initial elements came from Omar's efforts in Oruzgan in 1994.

All true...and irrelevant to the central question of where the taliban came from and the allegation of American support. There was none. The taliban reached power in 1996 behind the support of Benezir Bhutto and the ISI after they dumped Gulbuddin Hekmatyar.

I think the Taliban have chosen a soft target after their failed attack against government buildings and the Indian embassy last year. These high profile targets have been fortified and there is increased security presence. India has put concrete blast walls around the embassy and extra ITBP cover has been provided.

To S-2: You Yanks need to stop giving money to the Paks ... their economy will collapse within days the moment external aid is cut-off. Get your supplies through Central Asia. Let the Paks stew in their own juice.

The question for the US government is why they are keeping the Paks afloat, given that the Paks are causing so much mayhem in Afghanistan, and are oppressing minority nations like the Baloch.

How many soldiers has the US lost because of Pak proxies? How much punishment are you willing to absorb?

India should let Afghanistan (and NATO) handle this. It was an attack on the Afghnistan's sovreignity. Shows how desperate AT are getting now.

Now if all the bluster about Indians being nudged out of Afghnistan equation is true, why would Pakistan engineer this attack which only shows Afghanistan and India as victims and brings them closer. Only 2 possibilities

1. Pakistan is not involved in this
2. India's role in Afghanistan is much larger than what it seems or is publicised post the London conference...
