Indian Naval Ships, “TIR”, “KESARI”, “SUDARSHANI” and Indian Coast Guard Ship “VARUNA” belonging to the first training squadron of the Indian Navy arrived at the port of Trincomalee on 27th March 2015 on a training visit. They were welcomed in accordance with naval traditions by the officers of the Sri Lanka Navy and the officials of the High Commission of India.

The Commanding Officers of the visiting ships paid a courtesy call on the Commander Eastern Naval Area, Rear Admiral Rohana Perera at the ENA Command Headquarters. They held cordial discussions on matters of mutual interest and issues specific to the training modules, which are scheduled to be conducted during their stay in Sri Lanka. Mementos were also exchanged as a gesture of goodwill and friendship.

The visiting Indian naval and coastguard ships will stay in Sri Lanka until 30th March and a selected group of officers and sailors of the Sri Lanka Navy will be given onboard training by the Indian Navy. Similarly, the Indian ships’ crews will participate in a series of training programs arranged by the Sri Lanka Navy. The combined training modules would not only enhance the knowledge of both navies which have varied experiences in different environments, but also enhance mutual relationship and cooperation.

On completion of the training sessions in the harbor, an exercise has been scheduled to be conducted on 30th March with SLN ships off Trincomalee prior to the departure of the Indian ships.

. . .
Is this a complete move of Sri Lanka from China to India? One Chinese sub in Sri Lanka created a big problem in India, but now there are 4 Indian ships there!

@Capt.Popeye any idea why an ICG vessel is attached to this training group, is the ICG vessel also a training vessel ,like the others in the group, but for the ICG?

Anyway good to see the IN putting their trainees through such rigorous deployments (last week they were in Bangladesh and they sail around the region) before they join the combat fleet.

With all due respect mate.. Pls dont tag me along side a troll again..

On the subject.. There are many ships calling port in Sri Lanka not just Indian but also Chinese, Pakistani, Iranian, Japanese, Korean, British etc.. SL is in middle of the busiest sea route in the Indian Ocean.. There is no issue at all

The docking of nuclear subs was a different issue altogether.. Right or wrongly there is a bilateral agreement between Sri Lanka and India made in 87'along with the 13th amendment that states either nations wont allow thier territorial waters to be used against the security concerns of the respective two nations.. Now the previous regime is known for it's idiotic diplomacy mishandled the whole situation and allowed two Chinese nuclear subs to be docked at the time the Japanese PM was on a state visit..

Now surely as far as China was concerned it was a routine stop as any other of thier ships docking in Sri Lanka.. But as per agreement India had the right to be aggrieved for not being consulted by SL authorities

If it was actually legitimate to make such a huge drama by India is another matter of cause

I am sorry, but you see as a rookie it is very confusing to me. One day you hear the news that SL is pivoting towards China, but next day the news says the complete opposite.

Sorry, just trying to make head and tails of it. As a Pakistani, if SL is with China that means SL is with Pakistan also. Otherwise it is not. Thats why I take special note of SL news.

Another completely idiotic response trying to justify the current govenrment bending backwards to satsify India. Do you have a brain or is it stuck up your butthole? Ranil Wickremasinghe is selling off the country to the Indians. All the poaching Indian fishermen and their trawlers have been freed, they were even allowed to just pop over the Palk Strait to take them back. The Sri Lankan navy is doing **** all to arrest Indian fishermen. Oil Tanks given over to India and now Indian naval ships in Trincomalee. The Chinese are being demonised and their projects in Sri Lanka have been stalled or stopped. Sri Lanka's foreign minister meanwhile is living it up in 5 star New York hotels with his boyfriend. Three cheers for yahapalanaya.

Sri Lanka has no time for Pakistan now. This "Gibbs" fellow has been polishing Ranil Wickremasinghe's boots since forever, whatever his master does he will sing the praises of. He would sell his own mother if Ranil asked him to.

No worries mate.. Do not rely too much on Indian media reports pasted here.. They are known for thier over the top hysterics.. Does'nt mean they report the correct ground facts

Most wet thier panties at the mention of China.. Pakistan and China are and will be SL strongest allies but thier is no harm in improving thier relationship with India.. After all they are the closest neighbor and in geo politics you cant ignore such facts.. The new Indian govt seems to be making positive moves diplomatically as far as mutual respect is concerned and good things needs to be appreciated without narrow views.. Thats all.. There is no need for SL to pivot towards anybody, And a highly strategic but a small country like SL cannot afford to do that.. A non aligned policy is the best for them.. Thats what the new govt is trying to do.. Does'nt mean is pivoting towards India.. Thats just vested interests getting over heated..They cant allow to be a ball in the geo political game of super powers of China and the West, Where India seems to be increasingly used by the West to counter the power of China

SL needs to do what is in the best for it's people by staying neutral

The current Sri Lankan government has no time for Pakistan. Ranil Wickremasinghe is the west's pet and now he is licking India's balls because they played a role in getting Sirisena to defect. So your lies about "Pakistan and China are and will be SL strongest allies" amount to total bullshit. You might as well go and join Mangala Samaraweera and his boyfriend for a threesome at the Four Seasons Hotel in New York - you and him are equally full of shit. So far Pakistan has not even been on the agenda of the new SL government and will not be. Sri Lanka's closest allies are being dumped in favour of the countries that tried to stop the war against the LTTE. As for China they demonised that country whilst they were in the opposition and now they have taken a hostile approach to China and its projects in the island.

You don't stay "neutral" by calling the Chinese corrupt and then allowing Indian warships into Trincomalee and giving them control of oil tanks there.

Hope the Pakistani peeps here see through the BS you are feeding them.

Now both of you SLs are typing opposite stuff. Talk about confusing.

I would suggest you go and learn about this character from Sri Lanka:

Ranil Wickremasinghe

He is the prime minister of Sri Lanka and the real holder of power in the island currently.

He has never been able to win an election. The only way he knows to stay in power is to bend over to the west so that they will excuse his anti-democratic acts like they always do.

He is pro-west and always has been.

Nearly gave away 1/3 of Sri Lankan territory to the LTTE.

He has no time for countries like Pakistan or China.

He will run to the US like a little dog to lick Obama's boots if asked to.
