Pakistan gets four helicopters after US funded maintenance

ISLAMABAD, Jul 14 (APP): Four Pakistan Army Mi-17 helicopters were returned to the Pakistan Army by the United States on Wednesday after the United States funded maintenance overhauls.The overhaul programme provides critical support to the Pakistan Army by expediting maintenance and returning urgently-needed aircraft to flight operations, a statement from the US embassy said.The helicopters were handed over to the Pakistan Army here at the Chaklala Air Base.

The US has funded maintenance overhauls for 24 Pakistan Army Mi-17s, twelve of which were completed and returned to Pakistan last year. The remaining eight helicopters are scheduled for delivery later this year.

The US is also coordinating with the Pakistan Army to fund overhauls for another 10 Mi-17s, and has recently delivered two Bell 412 helicopters to the Pakistan Army.

Another 13 AH-1F Cobras have been procured for use as spare parts to further enhance operations of Pakistan Army Aviation.

welll so they have given maintanence money to re maintain them so they can get in better shape to fly well if im not wrong these helicopter used by US Rescue force if im not wrong please correct me

Still not understand Why US handover Russian hardware to Pakistan... If they really want to help Pakistan thn deal with the real American made weapons like Chinook, Blackhawk, Cobra's for attack. I bet Pakistan military not demand for Russian helicopter to US.

Atleast hard to understand if PA ask for any military hardware its mean we are loOking for American made hardware. We know our Army Aviation have gud experince with Mi helicopters but when we ask US ... it means we demand for American made..

Example like this:

someone go to Honda Showroom and pay for honda car but when the car delivery time. Honda will deliver Toyota Corolla ....

I read the article properly even more thn you We know what reality. Last year we got Mi from US (For your kind information) before posting or qoute any one message kindly do some R&D.

dude, these are Pakistani Mi-17s overhauled (to repair or improve something so that every part of it works as it should) with US assistance. However, I do understand what you meant.

I read this article and about assistance. I am talking about Why US handing over Mi ? and why us provide money and mechanical assistance for overhauled ??

The news is good for Pakistan but my point is something different Why us provide assistance for Russian hardware ? why not US sell those equipment about What Pakistan military want.

Seems like a lollypop kay paisay daykar chup karwado rather thn providing American transport helicopters. American Administration knows which kind of equipment required by Pakistan Army.

I think they provide (money assisstance). I think overhauling work will do by Pakistan Army Aviation here.

They recently provided MI 17s to Pakistan few, and those are pathetic enough to cause a fatal crash. The two officers were killed while one survived which was a miracle. The office had sent the detailed report and the chief grounded those.

Accidents are part of pilots job but I am sure the overhaul must have checked the wiring and electrical systems for quality control

Instead of going for overhauling the russian helicopters, Pakistan should go for acquisition of American Apachis which are the state of art fighter helicopters which can effectively be used in counter insurgency operations

Most of the American aid Mi-17 were acquired from third party sources and not from the manufacturers. So not much could be said about their history and condition.. second hand choppers they were..
Unlike the AF examples.. straight from Ulan Ude.

i say that Pak Army should go for up-gradation of all Mi-17 series choppers through U.S like those 46 that we have and those 24 that we have bought. And can anyone give some details of up-gradation of these Mi-17s and may be some cockpit pics and external pics.
