Well, US did attack Afg and Iraq because she could. Why to blame only one person? If Rumsfeld was not there as US defence secretary at the inception of Iraq war, someone else would have watched it over.

(CNN)Donald Rumsfeld, a former US secretary of defense under two presidents, died at the age of 88, according to a statement from his family.
No cause of death was immediately provided.

"It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Donald Rumsfeld, an American statesman and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. At 88, he was surrounded by family in his beloved Taos, New Mexico," the Rumsfeld family said in a statement.


"History may remember him for his extraordinary accomplishments over six decades of public service, but for those who knew him best and whose lives were forever changed as a result, we will remember his unwavering love for his wife Joyce, his family and friends, and the integrity he brought to a life dedicated to country."


Rumsfeld held the distinction as the youngest person to ever serve as secretary of defense and the second oldest to serve in the position. He served as defense secretary under then-President Gerald Ford in the 1970s and then under then-President George W. Bush in the early 2000s.

It was his second stint in the role that would come to define Rumsfeld's legacy in Washington. He oversaw two conflicts: the Iraq War and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

Good riddance. It's only unfortunate he didn't leave a memoir or interview expressing his remorse for part of the team that fabricated the laundry power war that killed millions.

He was 88. The cause was multiple myeloma, said Keith Urbahn, a spokesman for the family.

Encores are hardly rare in Washington, but Mr Rumsfeld had the distinction of being the only defense chief to serve two nonconsecutive terms: 1975 to 1977 under Mr. Ford, and 2001 to 2006 under Mr Bush.
He also was the youngest, at 43, and the oldest, at 74, to hold the post — first in an era of Soviet-American nuclear perils, then in an age of subtler menace by terrorists and rogue states.

THE AFTERLIFE – Former U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, who died today at the age of 88, will reportedly get his long-awaited chance to confront deposed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein as the two are set to be reunited in Hell’s everlasting lake of fire.
“In a way, this is what Donald always wanted,” explained a Pentagon source close to Rumsfeld. “Throughout his career Secretary Rumsfeld had a singular focus on taking the fight to Saddam Hussein, but always regretted that he never got to confront the man face-to-face.”
“Now, with Rumsfeld’s immortal soul being consigned to never-ending torment due to the hundreds of thousands of needless deaths he caused by lying to the American people in order to invade Iraq, he’ll finally get that meeting,” the source added.

While all agree that Rumsfeld will and should face an eternity of damnation for his complicity in the Iraq War, some have expressed doubt that he will be judged unworthy enough to be cast down into the same fiery depths as the late Chairman of the Revolutionary Command Council of Iraq. However, sources inside the Infernal Kingdom of the Prince of Lies confirm that Rumsfeld’s many war crimes, with Iraqi casualty estimates as high as 1,033,000 excess deaths, are “more than enough to gain him entry into our Saddam-tier of VIPs.”
