Foreign envoys urge Pakistan to condemn Russian invasion of Ukraine during emergency UNGA session

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan is likely to abstain from the United Nations General Assembly session, which will debate the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Dawn quoted a diplomatic source as saying that Islamabad has decided not to take sides on the war issue because the Pakistani nation wants a peaceful and negotiated settlement.

Pressure is mounting on Pakistan as EU nations have urged Pakistan to support an emergency resolution condemning Moscow’s aggression.

As the Western bloc is pressing Pakistan, Prime Minister Imran Khan is attempting a balancing act in relations. Khan, who visited Russia the day the war began, defended his decision, saying he was there to discuss bilateral issues only.

Addressing the situation, Khan said Pakistan’s foreign policy was independent. Foreign Office spokesman also maintained that Islamabad had been engaging with members of the international community to exchange perspectives on the deteriorating situation.

Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari reacted on social media, as she called the joint statement ‘ironic’.

"Pakistan did not support the use of military force, but EU should not adhere to the UN Charter selectively, as has been done for decades," she wrote on Twitter while condemning alleged violations in Palestine and Indian occupied Kashmir.

Pakistan is playing its cards very smart. For all intents and purposes, Pakistan is quietly with Russia but officially, it is neutral and is taking that typical run of the mill "ceasefire and negotiate" position. Pakistan, being a one of the medium sized nuclear weapons states cannot be pushed by the west too much otherwise becoming a staunch ally of Russia is always an option; a option the west cannot risk cuz if we give the Russian Navy access to our ports, you can practically kiss the middle eastern supply of oil and gas to the world good bye since the Russian navy is almost certain to block both the straits of hurmuz and the suez canal. That can only be possible if Pakistan openly allies itself with Russia...the west knows that and is deathly scared of that becoming a reality.

Well unsure why anyone needs validation from Pakistan?
We want peaceful ties with all nations of world

Pakistan has no ill feeling for Russia or Ukraine , the war is their personal issue which can only be solved by United Nations , not FATF not financial bans this will make Russia more angry

The issue is between Russia and Ukraine

a) If Ukraine did not install anti ICBM missiles , Russia would not be threatened

b) If USA did not unilaterally break the ICBM treaty with Russia , they would not be threatened

c) If USA had not attacked Russia's Allies they would not be threatened

When Russia supported respect for Prophet Mohammad , and spoke against Islamophobia I am developed a very neutral respect for Russia

When they stepped in Syria with Turkey to control blood shed , yes it also made me appreciate seeing Russia around balancing the power balance

But I feel for Ukraine as well it is just unfortunate it is Russia if it was France I might support Ukraine

USA love factor 75% before war it was 76% ( Love many things US)

• They need to do more for culture to culture exchange and less wars

Turkey love factor 96% before war it was 96%

Italy love factor 80% before war it was 80%

Australia love factor 79% before war it was 79% (Rough on us in cricket)

So there is no major hate just feel Russia has been treated badly

There is no indication Russia plans to attack NATO, but It seems like Europe really wants to kill Russia once and for all, and wants to close out almost all options for the Russia economy, because it’s a time sensitive opportunity to kill the Russian economy and the Europeans want to fully utilize.

Key western allies like South Korea are getting exemptions to import Russian energy products and make payments for them, as I assume Europe will keep doing as well.
