It’s not to late for Pakistan to say just that, despite the trip. Seemingly Not much has been achieved on the trip anyway. Our policymakers (if we have any) are complete idiots. There was no reason to visit Russia (and give the world the impression that we are siding with them). It was totally unnecessary, especially when it is Russia that's traditionally been arming India.
The best course was to either leverage a pro-Ukraine stance (for Pakistani interests in Kashmir, Afghanistan, etc), or to just say, "we condemn all cross-border invasions and occupations" without specifying who.
Either way, trying to be cute with the West is by far the most ridiculous decision ever. Most of our net-economic gains come from the West (e.g., trade surpluses, foreign work opportunities, etc). You either standard up and take a firm, unequivocal stance, or you pipe down and avoid attention. Don't do this messy middle stuff.
We don't want to take bold decisions, but smart and clear decisions. What IK did by visiting Russia was muddy the water even more and require our state apparatus to do even more bootlicking and compromising later.
Imran Khan landed in Russia before the invasion. If Putin started it in the middle of a meeting, do you want him to turn around and jump out of the nearest window and run back to Pakistan on foot?Hold on. The Choice was :
Being Neutral vs Being on the Side of Russia.
India chose to be Neutral, with a physical presence in Russia ( rigtht on the day of attack ), Pakistan has 'naively' signaled that its on the Russian side.
India did take many steps :
1. We Abstained
2. We didn't Support the Russian Move, despite being a Strategic Russian partner
3. We cancelled our Military Exercise :
India to not deploy aircraft in multi-lateral air exercise in UK, IAF says
Indian Air Force on Saturday said it has decided not to deploy aircraft in multi-lateral air exercise in UK next month in light of 'recent events'www.livemint.com
Of course, like China we will not criticize Russia for obvious reasons. But we truly didn't take their side either.
Is that the reason why India is being constantly armed while Pakistan is being denied even the basic stuff such as engines for T129? Or the West especially the US cares so much about us that they continue to arm-twist FATF and keep Pakistan on the grey list.Bilal, I couldn’t have said it better myself.
Every time the Indian army amasses on Pak border, EU and the US have both played a vital role in deescalation, we all remember the conflicting stances that Russia takes at such instances.
So the next time a false flag happens, and we are left to face Indian Cold start doctrine, and we ask the EU and US to deescalate, they would very well remind us of our own past unconcern with Ukraine.
And I’ll reiterate, Pakistan has a lower GDP per capita than Bangladesh, but our leaders have egos of regional powers. This Moscow gambit will play out in the future against us, Putin played Pak, rather than being angry we are gratefully for the visit.
I never said they tried to save us. They did it for there’s own well being, the effect of nukes going off in the subcontinent wouldn’t be limited to the the region. And yes, the west continues to deny Pakistan weapons to blunt our conventional response to Indian aggression. Nobody in the west is our friend. But Pakistan has more at stake with its relations with the west. And conventionally we will continue to be armed by China. An although the west bemoans Pakistan’s high dependency on Chinese, they do little to offer any alternative arms.Is that the reason why India is being constantly armed while Pakistan is being denied even the basic stuff such as engines for T129? Or the West especially the US cares so much about us that they continue to arm-twist FATF and keep Pakistan on the grey list.
You make it sound as if it was the US that saved us all this time and not our own capabilities. If that were the case we wouldn't have lost 71. There is a saying those who do not learn from their past are doomed to repeat it. I suggest we learn from ours instead of putting blind faith on others that have time and time again deceived us.
TBH it would make more sense if EU can make India take sides
As india is one of the biggest arms exporter from Russia. IMAGINE SANCTIONS if you buy any kind of military equipment from Russia would do more good than asking Pakistan to do anything
Yes, we've been bootlicking for the last 70 years. So? Why not start making the right decisions from this point on?So what we have been doing since last 70 years if not bootlicking. You good for nothing analysts keep yabbering. And do you think it was without yes from army?
