Forced surrender in 1971

The political chaos in 1971 culminating in secession of Pakistan's Eastern Wing was the result of a plan executed jointly by USA, Israel, Britain, India and former Soviet Union. Its mastermind was the Zionist International Jewry that controls the power centres in these countries through its entrenched lobbies. The plan could not have succeeded without the active participation of a treacherous gang of some civil and military leaders within Pakistan.

East Pakistan, now Bangladesh, may still one day rejoin with the parent country. People in both the wings are ready to forgive and forget. No one doubts that they were made the victims of an international conspiracy that included the services of several local agents. The Muslim of Bangladesh have realised that they were misled by design into looking upon Indians as their friends and West Pakistanis as enemies.

But the military surrender was devastating and beyond imagination. The humiliation and the anger felt by the masses, and more so by the soldiers, who had been cheated by their top commanders, lingers in their minds.
Although there is plenty of literature on the 1971 crisis, yet several devious schemes that nurtured the crisis and shaped its outcome are still to be exposed. Moreover, the writings of some Americans on the 1971 episode are a rich source of revelations about many of the otherwise less known occurrences. When this material is analysed it exposes USA' hand in fomenting rebellion by the Awami League, assisting India in deploying the Mukti Bahni terrorists, provoking the war and devising a quick defeat for Pakistan.

It is most depressing to find how Pakistan's top leaders were duped into accepting the idea of a military surrender although Indians were not expected it. Indian Army's Maj Gen Sukhwant Singh in his book wrote: "...most of the Pakistani units were up to operational strength and had a considerable potential to continue the war, if Gen Niazi had not accepted such an early ceasefire." Indeed, in spite of all the handicaps, Pakistan forces could have fought on for several weeks. So what caused the surrender?

The surrender was brought about by the US with masterful machinations, involving local agents in Pakistan and India and manipulation of the pliant persons who had been placed in key positions in Islamabad and Dhaka. The master stroke was the highly deceptive dispatch of the US naval forces to the Bay of Bengal.

The dramatic deployment of the US warships performed the pivotal role in the grand manoeuvre of deception and psychological warfare targeting the Pakistani leaders. Admiral Elmo R Zumwalt, Chief of Naval Operations of the US Navy in 197I, in On Watch: A Memoir wrote: "On Dec 10, a presidential order, that was not discussed with the Navy in advance, created Task Group (TG) 74, consisting of the nuclear carrier Enterprise and appropriate escorts, and sent it steaming from the Gulf of Tonkin to Singapore. The order did not specify what TG 74's mission was....The ships were held off Singapore for two days. On Dec 12 they were ordered through the Straits of Malacca into the Indian Ocean. Within an hour that order was rescinded! Next day it was reissued. At the same time, 'sources' in Washington let it be known that the object of the exercise was covering the evacuation of American civilians from Dhaka. This clearly was a cover story since that evacuation was successfully completed two days before TG 74 entered the Indian Ocean....On Jan 08 it was ordered out of the Indian Ocean as mysteriously as it had been ordered in. I still do not know exactly what to think of the TG 74 episode."
Zumwalt is right. Not even President Nixon knew what was TG 74's mission. Originally, the mission was a Zionist secret known only to Kissinger and his schemers from the CIA and Mossad. It was controlled from the White House, in other words, by Kissinger, who was the national security advisor to the president.

The Naval Task Force was used as a lethal instrument for a psychological blow. It was to flash a signal of support to the dispirited leaders in Pakistan, who were facing a desperate situation in the war, so as to boost their morale with the hope that US military help had arrived after all; and then at a set time cancel the signal abruptly, causing in Pakistan's military leaders a sudden and complete collapse of morale rendering them incapable of resistance to the offer of ceasefire with surrender. This was exactly what happened.

What better way to learn what the US thought than from the declassified documents of the US themselves. A must read archive of documents from the National Security Archives.

On a side note - Its about high time that GoI implements a policy to declassify its documents as well like the US does.

The Tilt: The U.S. and the South Asian Crisis of 1971

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, on the 31st anniversary of the creation of Bangladesh, the National Security Archive published on the World Wide Web 46 declassified U.S. government documents and audio clips concerned with United States policy towards India and Pakistan during the South Asian Crisis of 1971.

The documents, declassified and available at the U.S. National Archives and the Presidential Library system detail how United States policy, directed by Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger, followed a course that became infamously known as "The Tilt."

The documents published today show:

* The brutal details of the genocide conducted in East Pakistan in March and April of 1971

* One of the first "dissent cables" questioning U.S. policy and morality at a time when, as the Consulate General in Dhaka Archer Blood writes, "unfortunately, the overworked term genocide is applicable."

* The role that Nixon's friendship with Yahya Khan and the China iniative played in U.S. policymaking leading to the tilt towards Pakistan

* George Bush Senior's view of Henry Kissinger

* Illegal American military assistance approved by Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger to Pakistan following a formal aid cutoff by the United States

* Henry Kissinger's duplicity to the press and towards the Indians vis-à-vis the Chinese

The aricle is a kind of cheap shot. It is full of some anti-west lies.
Some of the examples:

(1) USA supporting India in 1971 war.
(2) Israel being invloved.....(that's a new one for me)
(3) Some zion****** word is used!!
(4) At one place, article suggests the reunification of Pakistan and BD.

Some poeple always live in past. I can say to author, get a life dude.

.
On first reading of the article it appears to be giving birth to another set of propaganda against US and Israel keeping up with the current public opinion in Pakistan against these countries. The author seems to be inspired by his own thoughts with no tangible backup for his claims.

However, we can't simply ignore the words coming out from a person of respect and authority labelling it as another propaganda campaign because of the simple reason of the author’s status as an Ex- Naval Commodore of Pakistan Navy. Guys..all we are doing here is trying to support our points based on information available publicly. However, there are many more things hidden under various Govt’s secret files which probably we may never come to know. It may be possible that the author is in possession of certain information which we are not as a normal citizen. And that little confidential information may have lead the author to believe that US, Israel and Britain were behind partition in spite of the fact that so much of material including classified US documents are available to suggest otherwise.

Probably Sir Triq Mazeed himself can throw some light on the facts that influenced his belief towards US’s intentions. However, one can not ignore US’s open support for Pakistan from the facts that it sent nuclear carrier US Enterprise to coerce India to stop military operations, Kissinger’s full of hatred statements against Indira Gandhi and most importantly sending General Chuck Yeager as US Defence Representative to Pakistan who helped PAF arm its Chinese Mig-19 variant with sidewinder missiles. Had US planning otherwise as the article suggests, why did it tried to make this task more difficult for India by arming Pakistan going against the sanctions imposed by US congress against Pakistan?

Further, this article doesn’t take into account the geo-political shape of that time where both US and Soviet Union was trying hard to establish their dominance in South Asia in cold war era. USSR’s support for India and US’s support for Pakistan was part of the same game. It’s a complete absurdity to keep US, India and USSR in the same league against Pakistan keeping in view the 1971 geo-political conditions.

Thanks

We are ready to forgive, but NEVER EVER READY TO REJOIN.We are better how we are now.Pakistan have enough trouble to deal with and Bangladesh have enough trouble to deal with.

After reading above para,I lost the taste for the whole article and didn't bother reading it.This one para alone is full of distorted facts and outrageous statement.

Even if it was a conspiracy by India and West,West Pakistani leaders played their part well to look like our enemies.
E.g. Doing nothing in 1970 cyclone,or leaving E Pakistan as a bait for India to invade during 1965 war.

Besides it says US was part of the plot...(?)...crossed all limits of bias.

and why every time Pakistan comes under tremendous pressure by such Zionists forces is not explained.

However for an another theory sake i personally don't mind author's assertions but the bigger question is that when any nation plans war or fight war they do considers many scenarios and one is such global pressures.

Sonicboom Please provide us your own point of view , what exactly your are trying to explain here.

Thanks.

I strongly believe that Pakistan and Bangladesh should have been two independent, sovereign, Brotherly Islamic states from the very begining.

It was un-natural to keep these two pieces of land together as they had no common geography, no commonality in culture, language.

I know many of my brothers will be thinking that these things doesn't matter as long as we both were muslim coutries, well, if it is so then all the islamic countries of the world share this religious brotherhood and most from pakistan to africa share borders, then why don't they unite as one mega muslim empire?

So, this proves my point that these two should have been two independent muslim states from the very begining.

In fact, AbbasNIazi, the great visionary, Sher-e-Bangla A.K. Fazlul Haque, when he presented the Lahore Resolution in 1940, proposed separate Muslim states instead of one single Muslim state in the subcontinent. Later in the chaos and British diplomacy, this got lost.

This is a complete contrast to the reality in Bangladesh. Sounds more like some bed time story here.
