For their comrades: Indian cartoonists sketch to support Charlie Hebdo

@Syed.Ali.Haider

I don't get it,

Why isn't religion or it's idols up for debate? I have heard people proclaim, threaten (and actually go ahead with the threats) people who criticize or question Islamic beliefs or it's icons. Going by the current condition of Muslims and the spread of extremism and violence in the name of Islam when a community becomes more religious/conservative, I would assume that there are a lot of questions that need answering.

Aren't there enough level headed folks that would push for more tolerance - 1) towards criticism, and 2) towards other religion (I see Muslims insulting every non Muslim religious group)?.

Of course religion is up for debate, but it depends on whether the goal of the debate is ridicule or understanding, and how it is perceived by the other side.

You would have that issue when someone else does that, but is religion, beliefs and it's icons open for debate internally?. I don't see any move towards any change. The only argument I hear is that when the religion comes under pressure - it's followers need to move even more closer to it ans retrieve into a shell, because everyone else criticizing is wrong.

The fundamentalism is affecting huge non Muslim populations as well - so they too have a right to know what's wrong.

Of course there is a healthy religious debate within Muslims too. I am proof of that in a small way here on PDF.

Of course, though I doubt you have had any worthwhile success.

But, I don't see any move towards any change. The only argument I hear is that when the religion comes under pressure - it's followers need to move even more closer to it and retrieve into a shell, because everyone else criticizing know nothing and are wrong in their criticism because they have flaws in their religion.

There is always hope. Always. :D

@Gunsnroses

@jaibi Was I incorrect in pointing out hypocrisy of this forum's muslim members?

I don't know the context. But whatever be the context, 100% wrong. Calling names or degrading other's religion is forbidden in our religion. Please refrain from replying back. Am no angel to be tagged but accept my apology instead.

Hindus kill for movie like PK, which is hardly anti-hindu and is made by conservative hindus anyway. Imagine what RSS will do once any news paper try to insult hindu god?

Which person got killed because of that movie?!

Stop sucking up lies and BS like a vacuum cleaner..

Not even 1 person has been hanged to death for blasphemy in Pakistan. 38% of hindus are members of RSS, 19% of them extremist tendencies which show up from time to time.

Imagine if PK was made by muslims, Gujarat 2.0 was on the cards in that case.

The fact that there are "blasphemy" laws in a 21st century nation is something utterly disgusting...

As for your numbers... they are all BS... unless you can prove them. Which you cant because they are BS.

while the line between satire and bigotry may be as thin as a cartoonist's pencil, the line between free speech and censorship is as thick as the Statue of Liberty. The cartoonists' inherent right to freely express themselves is as ironclad as their will to continue publishing under hostile threats.Terror acts by Islamic extremists have blasphemed and disrespected the Prophet Muhammad more than any Charlie Hebdo or Danish cartoon ever have. It's not surprising Islamic radicals have no sense of humor and are blind to their own hypocrisy by blood lust.

PK fire spreads as Hindu radicals cry for ban

The uproar over Aamir Khan’s PK escalated on Monday as Hindu radical groups vandalised theatres and multiplexes across several states, demanding a ban on the movie for apparently showing organised religion and godmen in a bad light.

Activists of Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) along with fringe groups protested outside cinema halls, damaged property and ripped promotional posters of the film which they said has hurt religious sentiments of Hindus.

The protests undermined senior BJP leader LK Advani’s endorsement of the Rajkumar Hirani-directed movie as a “wonderful and courageous film” and that everybody should watch it.

The film, released on December 19, landed in trouble after Hindu seer, Dwarakapeeth Shankaracharya Swaroopananda Saraswati who has a large following in Varanasi, and yoga guru Baba Ramdev disapproved of several “objectionable scenes” in it.

“Derogatory remarks were made against the Hindu religion … this wouldn’t be tolerated at any cost,” said Madan Verma, a Bajrang Dal leader in Agra.

In Lucknow, inspector general of police (law and order) A Satish Ganesh said forces have been put on alert and seniors officers were told to make special security arrangements to prevent any communal flare-up in Uttar Pradesh.

The All India Muslim Personal Board (AIMPLB) executive committee member, Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangimahli, asked the censor board to snip out the objectionable scenes to avoid religious discord and maintain communal harmony.

Over two dozen Bajrang Dal activists — carrying sticks and iron rods — smashed window panes at theatres screening PK in Ahmedabad. “Why the movie shows only Hindu gods and godmen in poor light? Why Aamir Khan’s religion was not made fun of?” asked a leader of the hawkish Hindu outfit.

Police lodged a complaint against the vandals. “We have asked for CCTV footage to identify those involved in the incident,” an officer said.

Protests were witnessed in Jammu and Bhopal too. A police officer in the Madhya Pradesh capital said the film’s screening has not been stopped, though.

The Shiv Sena’s Jharkhand wing in Ranchi warned of unparallel protests if PK was not banned immediately. “The protest may turn violent if the situation demands,” a party leader said.

The Sena has been staging protests in Maharashtra and some pockets of Punjab since the release of the film in which an alien (Aamir) lands in India and gets trapped in religious prejudices.

There was no solidarity with Muslims when they were protesting silently against blasphemous cartoons, even then Muslims were wrong. So if you think about it whatever we do we'll be called bad whereas they can go ahead disrespecting our religion that's alright. Might as well be bad then?
Well there is no shortage of ones defending the terrorist attack on paris.

PK was written and directed by Hindus and is very mild. These cartoons were created to bait Muslims. I am sure the new found freedom of expression and license to insult any religion may soon find Hindu god and goddesses subject to explore. Then we will see the freedom of press in India if they also reprint these cartoons.

I am sure nobody will blow himself or cut somebodies throat in the name of safeguarding religion here. Peacefull protesting is one of the pillars of democracy.

Repeating a question: have bharatis found a link, yet, of this attack to Pakistan, to show the world that Pakistan is the epic center of terrorism? Also, have they found links to Pakistan, yet, for attacks in Sydney, Ottawa and Boston?
