Minister for Ports and Shipping, Kamran Michael has said Pakistan is going to start exports from Gwadar Port for first time, during next week whereas till now it was being used for imports only.
He stated this while addressing the Pakistani community and media at a reception organized by Pakistan High Commission London, according to a message received here on Thursday.
Pakistan’s High Commissioner to UK, Syed Ibne Abbas welcomed the Minister as well as the community to the High Commission.
He requested the Minister to inform the community about the benefits of Gwadar Port and Pakistan China Economic Corridor (PCEC).
The High Commissioner also congratulated Zubair Gul, who was present on the occasion, on his appointment as Commissioner for Overseas Pakistanis.
Addressing the community, the Minister said, “Pakistan China Economic Corridor, for which $ 46 billion Chinese investment has been agreed upon, will bring about unprecedented development and prosperity to the people of Pakistan.”
In order to enhance the efficacy of Gwadar Port, he said, 2281 acres of land has already been earmarked where tax-free industrial zones and ware houses would be established.
“Pakistan’s economic future is linked with successful operation of Gwadar Port as it would help increase our exports and generate economic activity in the region. All this is according to the vision of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.”
The Minister invited the expatriate community to take advantage of the investment opportunities in Pakistan and assured them of the safety of their investment
He also appreciated the role of Pakistani diaspora in the development of the country.
In his brief remarks on the occasion, Zubair Gul, Commissioner for Overseas Pakistanis said that he would put in his best efforts to serve the overseas Pakistanis without any discrimination.
Welcoming suggestions from the community to improve the functioning of his office, he assured the community that he would remain accessible to them to solve their problems.
Gul expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for reposing confidence in him.
Around 100 community members and media persons attended the reception.
