In December, 22-year-old Habibur Rahman was tortured by eight Indian army soldiers for being caught illegally crossing into Bangladesh with cows he had purchased in India. Now, a month later, he is still shaking from the brutal, almost 24-hour-long beating he received.

Cows are cheaper in India than Bangladesh, so Bangladeshis buy them across the border and smuggle them back inside to sell. But India has erected a 3,000-kilometre-long electrified and guarded fence between the two countries, purportedly to stop terrorism.

Every cow brought back earns around $20, but now Rahman must deal with the physical consequences of his trade and his fear that authorities will come looking for him again.

Al Jazeera's Nicolas Haque reports from Shibganj, Bangladesh.

This package contains images that may disturb or offend some viewers.

This could be a good source to get some free electricity, lol.....

Munshi, you just sound very bitter, not every thread is about BAL. What would you have an alternate government do in this case? when BNP was in power the killings didn't stop.

It wasn't on the frontpage, if it was i would have seen it, i check bbc every morning. As i have said some corner in the south asian section. Probably this is the reason those 8 mornons got suspended and hopefully it will stop for a while, i give it a month max. Your finance minister's comment regarding this matter made him and india look like utter douchebags. Hell, my student uninion politicans are more diplomatic than that fellow lol.

How are your preparations for supporting BAL in next elections..? RAW has provided the funds or, should we try ..?

Nice try bangladeshis, but nobody will feel sorry for those who want to break the law, especially at night.
The torture was wrong, people are suspended and hopefully punished.

Indian govt should take allegations of corruption seriously and punish the BSF guys who allow bangladeshis after taking money/mobile/goat/fish/whatever.

It has been pointed countless times that unlawful trespassing is dangerous, and death is not a punishment.
You will be shot if you try to enter any defence installation at night in India forget border.(as a poor guy found out in bangalore last year).

Not even a single bangladeshi here condemns the act of their own people.

It appears you are deliberately misinterpreting my words. Nothing bitter in what I am saying. I think everyone in Bangladesh is frustrated with this government. I was merely expressing the popular sentiment. I think our border security should learn to shoot back and have a clear policy of defending Bangladesh citizens who live or work near the border.

I would hope that in future you stop behaving as an apologist for India and the BAL. You appear to be in the same category as Apocalypse and Eastwatch.

Yea I heard that RAW provided Tk. 200 Crore for the AL in the last elections and even helped in rigging the election results through Gen. Moin U. Ahmed but no I will not be voting for the BAL.
