What's new

For how long will you blame the previous government for your failures, PTI?

Not one month but five years with PTI campaigning and time for the preparation to takeover. PTI did admit it wasn't ready before and look like it was not ready to takeover even today.

If five years of preparation wasn't enough, then i don't know if PTI is capable to weather the storm in the deadline. Luckily, PTI came at the time where the economy was failure in 2013 to the stable thanks to PMLN.

Blaming PMLN is not gonna cut it anymore since PTI is now PM that it always sought for, and even hosted dharnas constantly to derail the stability of the economy, to the extent incited ethnic war as well.

PMLN was already willing to be blame-game since it made sense as PMLN was PM back then. It is looking foolishly to blame PMLN still while PTI is at the helm now.
Pakistani politics is all about trapping opponents. PTI government insisted that their priority is to protect the poor by giving them incentive and reliefs. Now they have decided to take tough and unpopular decisions which will hurt the very segment they aims to protect. We will witness more inflations and unemployment . Let see how they will create 10 million jobs and construct 5 millions houses in their five year terms . There is very famous saying that " “If wishes were horses, beggars would ride.”

.
Until Unless previous governments come forward and accept they did wrong with the people of Pakistan. How hard is that?

. .
For next 2-3 years..
The reforms will be visible to experts only
Exports,CAD, Tax to gdp, Investment to GDP and debt to GDP ratio will show PTI performance but election poltics is different and punjab is still PMLN ..they got more votes and won more seats there

How can anyone believe in PTI after watching them turn into the same people they criticised previously? PHOTO: PTI OFFICIAL

It has been only seven weeks since the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government took over the reins of the country and it is already evident that the government, especially its finance minister, has no clue of the direction the economy is taking. It is, of course, the fault of the PTI leadership, who brainwashed its followers into believing that Imran Khan could change the face of Pakistan by eliminating corruption and recovering the looted money immediately after winning the elections.

Perhaps the slogans were deliberate; Imran and his associates knew that it was impossible to achieve so much in such a short span of time. Or perhaps they really believed it themselves. As the Nazi leader Joseph Goebbels used to say,

“If you repeat a lie often enough, people will believe it, and you will even come to believe it yourself.”

He also said,

“The bigger the lie, the more it will be believed.”

PTI voters were convinced that all our taxes are siphoned out of the country and deposited in foreign bank accounts or used to buy property in Dubai. They were told that just by arresting a few civil servants and tax-evaders, the change PTI promised would happen overnight.

The 16.8 million people who voted for PTI actually expected miracles within a very short time of their party coming into power. As even a layman knows, miracles do not happen overnight. Yet his charisma is so great that Imran was able to persuade his simple followers that he was the chosen one, the man who would be able to make their dreams come true. Some PTI voters even believed that the dollar would soon be available for Rs40, and asked everyone they knew to sell all the dollars they had. As the sycophantic Senator Faisal Jawed said,

“As long as Imran Khan exists, Pakistan exists.”

Apparently he forgot that Pakistan existed long before Imran was even born.

Alas, the miracle has not occurred, and there is no evidence that it will occur in the near future. The dollar has appreciated against the rupee (and is expected to be worth around Rs140 in the next two or three months). The stock exchange index continues to fall, and the economy itself appears to be in free-fall. The State Bank has raised the interest rate by 1%, and a further hike is expected, which will result in massive inflation. Growth rate is expected to slow down to 4.8%, if not lower.

Despite Imran proclaiming loudly that he will not go begging to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), his finance minister is doing just that. So, really, there is no difference between this government and the ones that came before. Gas prices have been raised and with electricity bills sure to increase, we are all in for a nightmare.

How does one expect PTI to fulfill its promises regarding the country’s economy when they are going back on everything their party stood for? How can anyone believe in them after watching them turn into the same people they were criticising previously? In the first few weeks of being in power, PTI’s priorities have been such that you wonder if they even know what really matters in the country. Firstly, there was the question of where the prime minister would live. He had said that he would not live in the PM house and that it would be converted into a university. So he decided to live in the quarters of the military secretary (which incidentally is part of the PM house colony). He may be fooling the people who voted for him, but he is not fooling the rest of the country.

Then there was the matter of protocol, which Imran highly detested. But the protocol continues to be in force, whether it is for him, for the president or his ministers. He also went back on his promise to not go abroad in the first three months of coming into power. He said he would travel on commercial flights and not travel in business class. But in the very first month of assuming office, he travelled to Saudi Arabia in an official Air Force plane and also took along plenty of ministers and others with him, a practice he used to criticise when he was in opposition.
They also had a justification for their helicopter travel adventures. Fawad Chaudhry’s claim that a helicopter requires only Rs55 to take the prime minister from his home in Bani Gala to the prime minister’s house, only proves that the intelligence of everyone associated with PTI can be questioned. I even suspect that when they say ‘billion’, they really mean ‘crore’ (10 million).

Furthermore, PTI and its leader always claimed they are against dynastic rule, but unfortunately they accept anything when it comes to their party. Close friends of the prime minister have been named ministers and advisors, which makes us wonder, where is the merit now? Some of these include Naeemul Haq, Aleem Khan (under investigation by NAB), Awn Chaudhry and Zulfi Bukhari (despite being a British national, as well as under investigation for being in the Panama Leaks scandal and owning offshore properties).

Recently, Umar removed the ban on non-filers to buy vehicles and property, which shocked the country. Then he re-imposed the ban, only allowing overseas non-filer Pakistanis to buy property. But with the current volatile situation in the country and with the government backtracking on every measure it announces, how can overseas Pakistanis trust Imran, especially after his treatment of Atif Mian, a respected figure in international circles?

In the end, after all this mayhem and the inability of PTI to fulfil its promises, Chaudhry blames the previous government for PTI’s failures. This may help in the short term, but sooner or later, those who voted for the ruling party will be disillusioned and they will wonder whether the previous government was in fact better, or if following this whole ‘choosing the lesser evil’ mantra was a good idea. So unless this government takes drastic steps to improve the situation, people may come out on the streets protesting against false promises and impending price hikes.

The government needs to change its ways but while it fixes its problems, the country needs to be put first. Our economy is in shambles, we cannot afford to make mistakes anymore. The filing of returns should be made mandatory and there should be strict punishment for non-filers and tax thieves. Smuggling is a curse that has drowned this country in poverty. Just raiding the shops in Karkhano Bazaar in Peshawar, and all those markets in Karachi and other cities selling smuggled items will earn billions for the government. Taking the electricity and gas thieves to court and penalising them heavily, besides putting them in jail, will put the fear of God in others and will be another huge source of revenue.

The biggest revenue-earner will be the property sector, which has Rs7 trillion of black money invested in it. Some property price manipulators will have to be arrested and tried, but it will be worth it, even if a few of them are PTI donors.

But does this government have the will to do all of this?

I doubt it.

It will continue floundering like a sinking ship until the inevitable happens (as has happened so many times in the past), and a new government takes over.

A country which has voted for biggest corrupt thugs in the world for past 70 years want to see change in 50 days. Yes this nation only makes me realize one thing this nation actually deserves to be ruled by corrupt goons like Nawaz and mass murderers like Altaf Hussain and also MAFIA goons like Zardari

Here is the situation that was inherited by this government

1. Rampant corruption- atleast since 1989 (Benazir Tenure)
2. Not a single Public Sector is in making a profit
3. Reserves at all time low - (were expected to extinguish by Feb-Mar 2019)
4. Tax payers less than 1% of the population
5. External debt ($95.09 Billion) and internal debt (Rs 29.861 trillion)
6. Political Placements in every institution - since atleast 2008 (Zardari Era)
7. Electricity and gas shortages, hampering industries
8. High unemployment
9. Growing extremism
10. Health and Education sector in ruins

These are just 10 of the main issues that were inherited, and PTI had no fault in that. This government was sworn in on the 18th of Aug, its only been 52days. What were you expecting? How is this government supposed to provide relief to the poor with no money in the treasury? We all new that PTI will take some hard decisions, there was no way around it. Things will not improve overnight, people will have to burden the pain now for better gains tomorrow.

This is how i will judge the government in a years time

1. Removal of all political appointees
2. Start to privatize or bring back to postive flow for all Public sector enterprises
3. Increase Tax payers and punish the non-tax payers
4. Punish the corrupts and start process to bring back the looted wealth
5. Stabilize the reserves

If they are able to achieve this, i would be happy and we will see the dividends of these alot faster than people think.

Actually its nothing new for me . I have witnesses this before that PML(N) blaming PPP and PPP blaming PML9N) for everything bad happening during their tenure. Every government take loan by blaming previous government which created economic mess for them . If you read the article carefully then its about, Uturns, blunders and failures of PTI which has nothing to do with previous Government ..everybody know that PTI is new but we are talking about their start and beginning which is not ideal ..we are not expecting miracle in few months

Country deserve to be ruled by whoever they vote for. I don't know what you think about Tareen , Haleem, and zulfi etc . Political parties only see corruption in their political opponents. I am sure if nab and others institution start working under me then I could disqualify 80 or 90 percent of all Pakistani politicians . Who keep book keeping of their assets and expenses in Pakistan ? You guys made a big drama about panama and corruption of nawaz and then what happened when he went to IHS ? No evidences and Judges let him go by saying that he can not punish people based on perception and assumptions . Leaders of political party don't clean their own party and will have every excuse ready to defend corrupt in their own parties. Which JIT was formed to investigate tareen assets after he was disqualified by supreme court ?

I stopped reading half way coz i could tell the intentions behind it.

Blunders? Uturns? Failures? as i said its been 52 days. The author has no facts or figures to justify calling them failures.

On one hand you say you are not expecting miracles but on the other hand it seems you are.

well criticism is not easy to digest especially when its thrown at someone whom someone hold dear and infallible and I cannot guess the intention of others but if contents are wrong then they can easily be proved as wrong and false .PTI actually has done whatever he has mentioned in his article . Habit of Ptians is that they praise every anchor or author who non stop bash PML N and PPP but as soon as someone say a word against their dear IK or PTI then he become lafafa journalist and non credible

In Pakistan...impossible.
Then why asking or making such stupid and waste of time threads for how long and all that crap if OP doesn't have brain to understand the politics it's not PTI's fault.

I actually don't mind criticism, criticism keeps people on their toes and positive criticism is beneficial, but on saying that criticism for the sake of criticism is indicative of a hidden agenda. I have noticed people have started bashing Rauf Klasra lately, but i find his criticism very logical and he does provide alternates.

i have never ever bashed any anchor except Salim safi or that guy who wrote that when the doctors operating on NS opened his chest there was a bright light shinning from with-in, due to which all the doctors converted to Islam.

Inflation yes , unemployment not sure ... cutting development expense will have impact, attacking big business man could also be disasterous but the tough decisions we are talking about are in favour of small business man specially in manufacturing sector just like gas diversion from transport to textile and export oriented industries ...

Cutting back on expenses will slow the economy down and lead to fewer jobs or even cut in jobs.

.
A simple fact which our ruling class isn't able to understand, keep doing this and keep getting humiliated:

“Those who eat riba will not stand (on the Day of Resurrection) except like the standing of a person beaten by Shaytan (Satan) leading him to insanity…

O you who believe! Be afraid of Allah and give up what remains (due to you) from riba (from now onwards) if you are (really) believers.

And if you do not do it, then take a notice of war from Allah and His Messenger."
[2:275, 278-279]

Yes but same is being addressed by uplifting of local private industry ... by putting tariff on trading goods and bringing trading sector in tax net will make the trading business unprofitable and manufacturing profitable ... the dilema of our economy is that traders are out of tax net therefore manufacturing is way more expensive ... furthermore, devaluation of currency is also on cards ... to support export and discourage import ...

The most tricky part is our inelastic demand of import of energy and hydro carbon products will keep cost pressure on local industry ..

I think with more Dams and thar coal coming online in next 5 to 10 years to a reasonably high level will solve that problem too ...

C9ming 1 or 2 years might be tough to reshape the economy but if we successfully pass that period things will change for good
