For expatriates, Dhaka more expensive than Washington, Melbourne and Riyadh!

our country just open for foreign investment. just 4 year. everythings was overpriced and bad quality before that. now the price are falling and hope to see improvement in ranking year by year. :p

Myanmar is already becoming a tourist hotspot.. Wont be long before the infrastructure improves and Yangon will climb up the rankings mate.. Plus you'll have the added bonus of being in the ASEAN and not the shythole called South Asia

Well depends how many cities they add to the list in addition (they keep growing it) to those listed now.

But yes the overall percentile I would imagine will improve over time for Dhaka with greater investment density and capacity provision....and they will eventually add Chittagong to the list too I would imagine.

Chittagong should be more liveable than Dhaka. Cheaper too

yeah. bro Myanmar now is like Vietnam last 10 years. as manufacture sector is expending, the price of household and daily used goods is falling. u wont believe that a 330ml coke cost 1.5 USD. the price of Used 1998 model AD Van was around 66000 USD at 2010. the rental fee of standard office area was 100usd/ sqm. now the price are set to fall as the manufactureing sector and infra development are improved. hope to catch vietnam around 2030.

I would look at what metrics they considered. If they take price & availability of japanese beef or italian wine, it will always be expensive city to live.

Supply of high quality (+secure) housing (standard international expat level) is limited....thus pricey. From this stems other escalating costs (having to import many essential quality goods and pay all the tarrifs on that...given BD produces 0).

You will see a lot of BD members here claiming yada yada yada (as though a few pictures of restaurants indicate any broader realised trend on the ground)....in the end you can compare the quality of living to the cost of living (both produced by Mercer) rankings for expatriates.

1.5 $ is something around 300 fils or 2l if coke in Kuwait and one liter in Ukraine if bought from groceries instead of supermarkets which is usually cheaper.
2l Coca Cola is 100 taka in bd from groceries.... 300 fils is around 80 taka.

yeah. it was 2010 price. the period before opening the door for FDI. all the imported goods were overpriced. now the price have fallen and 1.5L big bottle Coke cost just 0.59 USD. if u choose Pepsi during this promotion time , 3L ( 2x 1.5L ) would cost just 0.85 USD. i dont drink coke. i'm big fan of Pepsi. lol

Standard of living doesn't really correlate to how expensive the city is

Also though Islamabad is a well panned and have relatively good infrastructure, It's more of a diplomatic and bureaucratic enclave than a real city, Similarly to what Canberra is to Australia.. The real measurement are cities like Lahore and Karachi

There's a big different between being 7% percentile and 43% percentile. Economist liveability index (which does it for everyone, not just expats) confirms that as well.

Posting fancy restaurant pictures is hardly indicative of the actual living quality (even for expats). In fact it just adds to the fact that localised cost does not equal sustained quality.

Oh cool. Btw is there no factory to produce local demand in burma? There are many in bd....
I like coke, had a Pepsi with my meal at the airport in turkey yesterday... I felt it was kind of watered down.
