Saudi Arabia plans to invest $600 billion in Turkey

By DINA AL-SHIBEEB
Friday, 29 April 2011

Saudi Arabia plans to invest $600 billion in Turkey’s agricultural and manufacturing sectors in the next 20 years, said the chief executive of the National Commercial Bank.

Abdul Kareem Abu Alnasr, whose bank is the biggest Saudi lender, said that his country’s exports represent about 76 percent of the total GCC exports to Turkey, dubbing the Anatolian country as an important trade partner.

He said trade between the two has reached $5.5 billion in 2008 up from $1.3 billion in 2002 boosted by the demographic of the two countries, as both have two-thirds of their populations below the age of 30.

Turkey’s GDP for the year 2015 is expected to be $1 trillion, which would make it the 17th biggest economy worldwide, while the Saudi GDP will be the 19th at roughly $700 billion. (If oil prices stay high, then Saudi Arabia’s GDP is likely to rise.)

Because of high oil prices Mr. Alnasr said that Saudi Arabia managed to lower its debt of 80 percent of its GDP in 2003 to 15 percent in 2010.

Saudi Arabia, like many of Gulf countries, needs to deal with the issue of food security, and its investment in Turkey’s agriculture and manufacturing is set to increase, Mr. Alnasr said.

“In the agriculture space, Turkey emerged as one of the top recipients of Saudi investment, as the kingdom seeks to boost its food security,” he said.

According to a recent presentation that Mr. Alnasr made at the Turkish-Saudi Economic Forum, Planet Food World Co. will invest $3 billion in Turkish agriculture in the next five years, with the aim of exporting food products to the Gulf region, according to Bloomberg News.

The strength of Turkey’s agriculture enabled exports of farm products to Saudi Arabia to increase from $90 million in 2008 to $144 million in 2009, according to Alnasr.

Turkey has shifted its foreign policy ever since the advent of the conservative party, AKP, in 2002. The party has started to look more toward the Middle East.

Saudi Arabia foresees making investments of $600 billion in Turkey during the next 20 years, according to Abdul Kareem Abu al-Nasr, the chairman of National Commercial Bank, the largest Saudi lender.

Investment in Turkey’s agriculture and manufacturing is set to increase, Abu al-Nasr said Wednesday in a presentation that was delivered in Turkey, a copy of which has been obtained by Bloomberg News.

“In the agriculture space, Turkey emerged as one of the top recipients of Saudi investment, as the kingdom seeks to boost its food security,” he said in the document.

Saudi firm to invest US$1 billion in Turkish polypropylene plant

Tuesday, 08 May 2012 09:18

Saudi’s Advanced Petrochemical Company and Turkish petrochemical trading firm Bayegan Group have agreed to jointly invest in building a Propane Dehydrogenation (PDH) and Polypropylene (PP) plant in southern Turkey

After signing a MoU, Bayegan's chairman Ercument Bayegan stated that the firm would establish the plant jointly with Advanced Petrochemical with a US$1 billion investment.

The project will not only include the construction of a state-of-the-art PDH-PP plant, but will also include the building of port facilities.

Construction is expected to start in the second quarter of 2013 and is scheduled to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2015.

The plant will have an annual capacity of 500,000 tonnes and will supply up to one third of the annual polypropylene needs of Turkey.

The plant will produce polypropylene from propane gas, which will be bought from producers in the Middle East and transported to Turkey by tanker.

This deal marks Advanced Petrochemical’s first overseas investment and is part of the firm’s wider growth strategy in the region, according to the company’s chairman Khalifa Abdullatif Al Mulhem.

Advanced Petrochemical will hold 70 per cent of the equity in the new venture with Bayegan holding the remaining 30 per cent.

I simply stated, that those numbers are not realistic, this was his reaction:

Tell me who was provoking. As a matter of fact those numbers are not realistic and propaganda and I might could have reacted a bit more mature, but I cant help myself and mock Saudis from time to time.

Bullshit of the highest degree. Turkey received 17 billion dollar FDI in 2011, do the maths. Saudi Arabia will not invest 400 bln in Turkey.

Now for the brain part:

Why dont you go and do something you're good at like jailing women for driving cars?

A common position carefully reflected “the two governments”. We are not totally crazy. Because we are “genetically deficient Arab”.

If this is the position is “supposedly false” so we are two. Turkey and KSA. Ok.

there's another company in Turkiye that makes similar products -- Nurol. I have friends working for them - mostly technical, some on the sales side.

FNSS is also making some impressive mil vehicles.....

these are pictures I snapped @ IDEF in Istanbul

they make the 8x8x8 ''pars'' armoured/amphib. vehicle as well as the ''akici'' apc

would be interesting to see how hold up to the sandy, barren, hot/dry Saudi climate....

good to see the good old M113s also...its an old design but still in use in many countries.

Pakistan's H.I.T. is producing M113 chassis armoured vehicles also (which are modified locally -tranny as well as guns); we exported some to the Iraqi army a few years back

It will take time for KSA to develop an industrial base but with proper policy in place it should be
one of the most industrilized countries on earth considering the fact that they have petrodollars. People often look down on KSA but KSA does have some decent industrial base like Petrochemical refining, plastics and food stuffs. Industrilization is the only way for KSA considering the fact that they don't have a large no. population for labor intensive growth and that leaves them with capital intensive growth and KSA have the money for that. I wish KSA to be a major industiral state in the future.:)

I think there is a turret for Anti-Tank missiles, but there arent any missiles on the picture itself.
