Flying Into Dhaka- First Impressions of Bangladesh

Oh such poor souls ! ! ! trying to find own little happiness in finding other's problem :sarcastic::sarcastic::sarcastic:
It is natural that haters will pick any excuse to put you down. But the problem is, we ourself have made Dhaka to look much poorer and uglier than it should be by our own bad taste. We think Rickshaw as a cultural icon, we enjoy riding them and are oblivious to the damage they are causing by worsening the traffic jam as well as image of the city.Dhaka's narrow road is not capable of handling hundreds of thousands of rickshaw without a consequence. It is hampering the growth of motorized three wheeler, mini bus or taxi service from growing up and made the entire city dependent on it.Because of easy opportunity to earn a good money without any capital, it attract all the uneducated and pennyless people from across the country to Dhaka. This is also the same case with all those garments factory around Dhaka.

These two labor intensive job for poor people which concentrated in and around Dhaka have made the the city as a dumping ground for all the poorest and uneducated labor from across the country.Out of 20 million people in the city, at least 7-8 million are the rickshaw puller, garments worker and their family. They are the reason for the huge presence of slum in Dhaka. It is no coincidence that, Bangladesh have higher urban poverty rate than rural.Which is not the case with other regional countries.Unless we gradually phase out rickshaw and move the garment's factory away from Dhaka, this city's major problem like overcrowdedness, traffic jam, image problem will not solve. There are many countries in the world which are poorer than Bangladesh but have better looking capital city than ours .Even Indian have managed to make their cities much more orderly and pleasant looking.Indian cities don't look that poor and their road are not roamed by the poorly attired, uneducated, labor class people clogging the road with run down rickshaw or malnurished girls rushing to garments factories. even though poverty rate is higher there than Bangladesh.

Look at the beautiful capital of Cambodia, Phnom Penh, a country with somewhat lesser per capita income than Bangladesh.

Phnom penh since long had an integrated, well planned and Rigid city planning since French colonial era, the same can be said with several other many ASEAN cities like Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Min, Surabaya, Bandung and other.

LOL

Check out their airport!
@Śakra the Bakra, Bangladesh is a poor LDC country and Dhaka is an unplanned city. Unlike the place you're from, where peoples are suppa rich (minus more poverty than Africa). ;)

BTW, the women on your DP looks like a Prostitute. You know her? :D

Few points such as traffic is something which cannot be argued about. As for him taking a cheap hotel is his personal choice. There are tons are good, moderate Inns in Dhaka any of which he could have taken. However, I assume he is a budget traveler and being one myself years back, I can understand his restrictions.

Apart from that, Dhaka is generally a very badly planned city. Cannot deny that and unless the authorities take projects such as Purbachal, Uttara etc, its no where going to get better. Positive thing is that stuffs have started to move through replacing all the leather factories outside Dhaka, Rajuk regulations on leaving space for streets etc. They have to take the decentralization seriously and retrain workers at grass-root levels (rickshaw-pullers mainly). These usually go hand-in-hand and by this you ensure employment for these people once you ban 3-wheeler someday in the future.

For now, after leather industries, the priority should be taking all the garments factory outside Dhaka and develop special RMG parks with dedicated facilities. A big proportion of the city will ease off when these workers shift outside. Not that they are doing great now, given the livelihood expenses in Dhaka. After that, the target should be to bank rickshaws, just as they did for 'baby taxis' and 'murir tins'.

Thank you for your support. The words they use against me in this subthread are the utmost vile and sexist. It's truly shocking
You know in Bangladesh we have more woman than man. If you want special treatment as a woman stick to Indians. ;)

With us you get what you ask for. No discrimination... :enjoy:

Amount of human carts is astonishing, considering this is their capital and richest city; wonder how other regions in Bangladesh would be.

I do not see the problem with human carts. Some politicians decided to ban it since they regard it as degrading

Lekin @billyboy9 and the rest of the bengle gang were screaming about how great dhaka was. When shown they mirror they get so defensive and resort to sexism and violence. It reminds me of the time an Bollywood actor said he didn't want to go to benlengledash and they started rioting in their own country. Bhai, the guy who filmed this vlog was staying at the "upscale" part of dhaka and even still it didn't have AC! That's how "progressive" this monoethnic state is. I can't believe they actually talk about passing India and Pakistan with a straight face.
It is the last place on Earth I would visit.PERIOD.Kudos
