New Delhi: The Indian Army has vowed “appropriate response” to the barbaric attack by the Pakistan Army, which killed and mutilated the bodies of two Indian soldiers in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir. Defence Minister Arun Jaitley will brief Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday.

Here are five options before India to respond to the grave provocation:

OPTION 1: Artillery attack on Pakistan post

This would violate the 2003 ceasefire, but is the safest method of immediate retribution. It will also be a straightforward message to the Pakistan Army.

OPTION 2: Covert cross-border raids

The Indian Army conducted surgical strikes last September in Azad Kashmir to dismantle terror infrastructure after the Uri attack. But former army chief General Bikram Singh feels that such a strike may not be of much help this time. “We did surgical strikes and then we didn't push it through. We will have to bleed Pakistan… even economically,” he told CNN-News18.

OPTION 3: Raise the issue at International Court of Justice

The dastardly attack by Pakistan Army violates international convention. But India is unlikely to approach any international forum as this may give Pakistan an opportunity to raise the Kashmir issue on international stage.

OPTION 4: Raise the issue with Pakistan at a flag meeting

Past flag meetings, however, have made little headway as is evidenced by the repeated provocations by Pakistan.

OPTION 5: Snap bilateral ties, expel high commissioner

There have been demands to bring diplomacy to a complete halt, but this shuts down a limited window for dialogue.

At 8:30am on Monday, Border Action Teams (BATs) of Pakistan crossed into the Indian side while the Pakistan army launched heavy rocket and mortar firing on two forward posts. "It was a pre-planned operation of Pakistan army. They had pushed in BATs over 250 metres deep inside Indian territory and set up ambushes for a long period to carry out the attack," a senior army officer said.

The martyrs were Head Constable Prem Sagar of 200th Battalion of the BSF and Naib Subedar Paramjeet Singh of 22 Sikh Regiment of the Army. Constable Rajinder Singh of the BSF battalion suffered injuries in the attack.

A BSF officer said troops guarding the border line retaliated effectively.

In April this year, there have been seven ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the LoC in Poonch and Rajouri sectors of Jammu and Kashmir.

On April 19, Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire along the LoC in Poonch sector.

On April 17, Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire by firing and shelling mortars on forward posts in Noushera sector along the LoC in Rajouri district. They had broken the ceasefire in the same sector on April 8, in Poonch district on April 5, in Bhimbher Gali (BG) sector on April 4 and twice on April 3 in Balakote and (Digwar) Poonch sectors.

In Digwar sector of Poonch, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), Naib Subedar S Sanayaima Som, was killed in an improvise explosive device (IED) blast along the LoC in Poonch sector on April 1.

There were four violations of the ceasefire along the LoC in Poonch in March.

In 2016, there were 228 instances of ceasefire violation along the LoC, while there were 221 instances of ceasefire violation along the International Border (IB).

Artillery Attacks on Pakistani Posts are normal as per Indian reports. Though Pakistani media doesnt give much details but recently an PA officer admitted that Indians have better infrastructure on LOC, means he must have been talking in the context of vulnerability of Pakistani Posts in light of Artillery or other attacks on Pakistani Posts.
But if India has to seriously take ball to the other court then they need to really get the planners of such attacks and make them accountable. Which I doubt India has capability to do that.

India hits back after jawans mutilated on LoC; Army kills 7 Pakistani soldiers, destroys 2 enemy bunkers

In a strong message to Pakistan army which killed two Indian soldiers and mutilated their bodies, the Indian army tonight destroyed two Pakistani bunkers and killed seven of their soldiers.

Initial reports said two Pakistani bunkers were destroyed in Kirpan and Pimple posts opposite to Krishna Ghati area of Mendhar in Jammu.

About five to eight Pakistani Army soldiers of 647 Mujahideen battalion were in one post.

Both posts have been destroyed and seven Pakistani soldiers were killed in the Indian action.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan's Border Action Team (BAT), which comprises the special forces, killed two Indian soldiers under the cover of shelling by Pakistani troops in Krishna Ghati Sector in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

The army issued a statement saying that the bodies of an army soldier and a BSF head constable were mutilated but a senior army officer told PTI that they were beheaded.

The BAT team had set up an ambush to target the patrol party of the Indian soldiers while the Pakistan Army engaged two Indian forward defence locations (FDL) with rockets and mortar bombs, the officials said.

After the incident, Defence Minister Arun Jaitley had warned Pakistan that the Indian Army will retaliate.

"Their bodies were mutilated by our neighbours. This is a reprehensive and an inhuman act. Such acts don't even take place during war, let alone peace," Jaitley said.

Stating that the sacrifices of the soldiers will not go in vain, he said the armed forces will appropriately react to this extreme form of barbaric act.

Hours later, Army chief General Bipin Rawat had also reached Srinagar to assess the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

this all time violence affects only two categories of people,
1. the one who resides close to LOC, either side
2. Martyred and there families either side.

Apart then above two, people far away from LOC have no clue whats happening exactly. One group when claims there soldiers have lost there life other celebrates claiming it as credible, when same group again claim soldiers in other side have lost life as well, then celebrating group make it non credible.

Only people staying far away from LOC are doing chest thumping(either side), now this full time nonsense should be stopped permanently or go out on full blown war and settle it at once for an all.

Review the forum rules which you administer, it would not be a wise decision to troll the deaths of our martyrs! As a person of great eminence in this forum, you of all people should be the last person resorting to this cheap mud slinging! @waz @WAJsal Please convey the message to the moderation team.

Talk about insult to injury - let me give you some advice: you stick your claims and we will stick to ours (The loss is from our end at present) the grieving families & their tears are habitual lies are they?

The Indian Army is a professional establishment that take's count's for its loss's, I don't doubt them for a second.

OPTION 1: Artillery attack on Pakistan post

Void the 2003 ceasefire? Mortars are already being fired on a regular basis. The ceasefire stands in name only.

OPTION 2: Covert cross-border raids

We all know how that turned out last time, a media team was there within 24 hours witnessing the might of the IA and how conclusively they had destroyed ......... nothing.

OPTION 3: Raise the issue at International Court of Justice

Saurab Kalia was India's most sure case if it had gone to the ICJ but they did not share his autopsy report with the ICJ or the EU both of which had promised War Crimes proceedings and subsequent sanctions. The reason being that India simply manufactures these exaggerated tales to spin narratives for domestic political mileage. Guys are killed in battle, that's called war but no one has the time and energy to sit and start desecrating their bodies. I'd much rather move on to killing more or bugging out back to own position.

OPTION 4: Raise the issue with Pakistan at a flag meeting

Hotline contact already made. They won't pursue the matter at a border flag meeting because what are they going to tell their Pakistani counterparts? Stop killing our guys? That's what they're both their for isn't it? As for the mutilation bit, even the local commander is not going to have a mickey made out of him for claiming that troops actually stayed in enemy territory, under fire, to mutilate corpses. He knows its hogwash. Real world fighting doesn't work like that.

OPTION 5: Snap bilateral ties, expel high commissioner

As if there's a lot going on at the diplomatic front to threaten? Hardly makes any difference either way. There's nothing substantial on the diplomatic agenda anyway.
