Five Things That Obstruct Rise of India

Not to offend, but every point seems like one big ridiculous assumption. lol

Point 3 and 4 are extremly right, many members will agree with me.

The Five great obstacles we face are

1) We are not enough partiotic (when not threatend)

That is simply not true. We take great pride in our country. Even when we had nothing we used to take pride in our 'culture'. Today, we are secure enough to list things like IT and space research as our achievements.

2) We do not have eco system like US which attracts talent from all world and retains it.

This is true. But we have to start somewhere. We do have the eco system in our country on paper. In India nobody wants to start anything new. Even most of our current startups are copies of proven concepts elsewhere.

3) We dont have complete faith in our own capability. Remember the maiden test of Agni 5. Many members were sure it will fail. That's just one example.

We should take pride in our achievements. We should also criticize the planning process and institutions. Only when we expect some standards, will we demand them. They are independent and academic discourse should be kept separate from how people should feel about India's achievements. You can see one more example of more patriotism here. Some people complain about DRDO, based on eviednce of its practices.

But all Indians feel secure that they have a ballistic missile arsenal.

4) Baba Vakya Pramanam culture that prevails in India at large even now.Such atmosphere in our nation demoralize new ideas and turn once briliant student into a common Clerk/Officer. There is no wrong in respecting elders and their advcie, but we should use our own intellect too. Then we, in schools, end up copying each other's essays (Except the Present Company).

I completely agree. Every wants to become a bank clerk. I don't understand why people would do engineering to do that. We should blame parents for making students join courses that don't connect with their interest. From then on, its a chain of events. The students could simply do a degree like arts where they get a degree while pursuing their interest. Still they would be eligible for a clerk ojb.

5) There is something wrong within us which leads us to believe we can not build anything which is world class and are victim of inferiortiy complex, which partly stems from our dislike of own colour. This complex is very old. There is reason why Krishna is dark skinned.


But gladly with rise of India, Chandrayaan1 and Mangalyan thats changing.

If we fix these five problems, we will rise like eagle and Shine like Surya Naryan.

Indians are obsessed about 'fairness' We also think our English is 'bad'. We should just think our accent is just one among many. It becomes 'unsexy' because we speak without confidence. This IMO is worse than the fairness. English prevents us from pursuing the business and worrying about 'learning' and overlearning English. If people can be taught that language is more about comprehension instead of perfect grammar and accent, it would do wonders to confidence among Indians.

We also think we should do things only if they produce something on par with something produced today in the West.

For example, everyone thinks a new engine is not worth producing in India because we don't know this and we don't know that. But it is actually simpler to dig through expired patents(may be 12 years old technolgy) and build some working engine. We have a misplaced notion that this 12 years must have caused so much technology rifts that it cannot be bridged.

One big factor you forgot is climate change, which is projected to be devastating for India's large coastal provinces. Steady rise in sea level, yearly typhoons strengthened by climate change will wreak havoc on development. Indian farm production in southern and coastal provinces will be hampered. All the factors you stated were factors India can control, but there are many factors obstructing India's rise that India cannot control. Not to mention 13/20 of the most polluted cities in the world are in India, and the capital New Delhi is the most polluted city in the world.
