PESHAWAR: A police training centre in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mansehra has appointed a woman principal – a first for the province.

Sonia Shamroz, an MBA in human resource management and an 18-grade officer, termed her appointment to the billet as a matter of great pride for her family and herself.

“It is no less than a challenge for me,” she said.

“KP police has brave officers who have rendered enormous sacrifice for peace in the region and I am hoping to ensure better training for the police officers in the province,” she added.

“The initial training given to police officers must adhere to modern requirements, including skills for communication with the public, crime control, and a fair attitude towards women police staff.”

Sonia stressed that as a principal, it would be her responsibility to ensure that the police officers were trained in line with modern needs so that they could facilitate the people effectively.

“We need to ensure that the police officials in the KP have highest levels of awareness regarding basic policing,” she said.

Before her latest posting, Sonia was posted as a superintendent of police (SP) Abbottabad for the past one-and-a-half years. She has ample experience in crime control, investigation and people contact.

Earlier this year in January, the KP government had appointed Bano as the first female police officer in the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD).

Ah. The fact it produced someone worthy of such position in such short time proves the hardwork our women can do!
