What's new

first time an Indian shipyard is building a warship for export

word"for the 1st time" is so strange for me

this means that for the first time India is building a ship only for export purpose, in the earlier cases India have transferred the control of its naval assets.

India has the capability for exporting but we have to do this <edit>faster</edit>, this will add another source of revenue for us..

WTF, our own Navy orders are over flooded and we are building ships for others? How would we accomplish our goals of 150+ warships in next 15 years?

More orders , more money, more research ..more capability and capacity and most importantly , more jobs.

Theoretical it is better, but how long it is feasible in current scenario?

By expanding ship building capacity. That's the only way to go.

And better, have L&T and others enhance ship building capabilities .... L&T already has a naval building dock.

That is good dude, but how long it is feasible in current scenario?

Explain current scenario.

The Indian orders are not split to all public and private builders.

Builders of Cochin, Goa, Visag, L&T etc have their own order books.

There is a whole market in the south asia, there are countries who are willing to buy goods which are in demand, however, we need to rightly target the market and make our country competitive and innovative, economies of scale always helps :)

we have progressed a lot in Naval Platforms compare to land and air platforms, keep it up!!!

In current scenario all the shipyards have already been full of orders till 2020, that results into manufacturing order of patrol vessels to Sri Lanka. What do you say?

Yes we could outsource some project to Vietnam and SK but recent increase in threat from China both of their manufacturing throughput has increased drastically by their own orders.

We could have had more infra to help manufacture more but sadly our government is a farce...

actually a major part of the ship building capacity with the private operators are sitting idle even though they have done major expansion of late only due to short sighted policies of the government.

case in point being pipavav.

Export is good thing. But just build those submarines fast. God dame it they are 4 year late. Increase the man power on those projects first then start doing business

I do need to tell you that the orders given to SriLanka are for Super Dvora class patrol craft. Its an Israeli design being built under license in Sri Lanka. The IN uses a batch supplied by Israel and has found it to be a suitable craft. But its not made in India.
