This is just a casual post. Thought to share to maybe lighten up the mood here some. Showing the first snowfall of the season which is happening today. Already about 3-3.5 inches of snow has fallen here and that's enough for those of us who live in the American Deep South. So far this year, the temp has fallen to as low as 23 F / -5 C, but I have seen as low as 4 F many years ago.

Surrounded by literally hundreds of acres of woodlands and hardly any neighbors, life is peaceful. It can get boring working from home. Sometimes I miss city life but city trips can be made every now and then. Pics show our little house in both sunny and snowy days. A 'Frog Pond' in the backyard which was frozen a few days ago--and certainly frozen again and covered with snow right now. It is great joy to sit in the sun and it is great joy to walk in the snow. The first sign of spring is usually wild daffodils blooming sometime in February. I know when summer has arrived when tiny frogs appear on the rim of the Frog Pond. Distinct sign of the Fall are the yellowing leaves on our fruit trees like peach, apple, apricot, plum, and pear. Winter starts when all the oak trees have their leaves completely fallen. I walk up and down our very long, shaded driveway every season and watch various trees changing their colors as required by Mother Nature. Snakes start appearing in April--but they are almost always harmless and I often just walk past them. I used to kill them and on one day alone some years ago I had killed four of them--I still regret that. So last year I just used jet from a garden hose to make one go away from the front of the house. My company is plenty of raccoons, squirrels, crows, and several kinds of birds. Also there are plenty of deer who take advantage of the safe environment near the house. But recently coyotes have been coming closer and closer to the house and their pack's

howling can be scary. Then there are more elusive foxes around; I have seen only 2-3 of them. Black bear sightings are also increasing, as the wild-life habitat is shrinking; one was spotted barely a mile from our house some months ago. They are generally afraid of people and go away but a sow with her cubs can be dangerous.

Thank you. Simple, rectangular, cookie-cutter house. Barely 1300 sq ft covered area. But enough. It is the land around which makes things so special.

Plus you have a really nice deck in the back (with lights) and a sunroom.

If I had a driveway like that I'd hang some solar lanterns from the branches

It could keep away the bigfoot!
Look how wide it is compared to the ~25cm+ trees near it. This thing is like 130+ cm wide...as in HULK huge.:o:

I'm in the Boston suburbs where the land is $1M/acre so my neighbors aren't that far..but far enough the coyotes and an occasional bear are running around.

Nice !!! Which city is this? I am thinking to finding something like this here in Australia but the mongols here have just made everything much more expensive specially compared to US.

That's not a sasquatch-- that's Paul Banyan poaching some trees ;)

It's not a city. Very rural. Deep South. Enough hint ;) But seriously, until very recently, real estate was not very expensive in rural America. But now people have more mobility because of work from home and also because people fleeing the 'Blue States' of America and coming to the South which they put down all the time. Who are the 'mongols' in Australia??

Cardinal, sparrow, and blue jay at your bird feeder?
Yes, sparrows and cardinals. The 'blue jay' looking was black. Not a crow. Can't tell what it was.

Hmm. Hard to tell since the head is hidden.

Great shot of the birds. Beautiful property. You should see the snow that I have shovelled off our drive way pilled up above my shoulder height.

Thank you.
Shoulder height?! I believe you! I used a measuring tape a bit ago and the total snowfall was about 3.9". Snowfall happens here almost every year but there have been some years with not even a few flurries. Deep South!
I am a chicken when it comes to snow! Afraid to walk on it, let alone drive. So been homebound today and tomorrow. The temp will drop to 18 F / -8 C and that will hard freeze the snow to ice. Expect numerous wrecks on the roads in this year tomorrow.

I love cookie-cutter houses. How did you get your "cookie" cut? By yourself? :)

A big home manufacturer had a bunch of home designs in their catalog. We chose one of the smaller and cheaper ones. We had barely 6 months to have the house built and move in for some reasons. The manufacturer, once started, had the house done and ready to move in less than 3 months-- turnkey except for personal items/furniture and the fridge. Amazing efficiency! And there were no major cost escalations.
The house was built deep into the woods and for that we paid some extra price for water line, gravel and other things. To this day we can't get natural gas or fiber internet because of the cost to run them from the street to the house. But it was and still is well worth it!

I went to buy halal food at Greenville on Sunday, took the wrong turn at Haywood mall and got my car Stuck in the snow for 3 hours... thank god some white guy and his wife saw me and my wife struggling with our car and they help us, if not we would have ended up calling 911. Just in case anyone wondering I have a 2015 infinity Q50 Hybrid, that rear wheel drive has no traction in snow at all.

Very nice. I have been contemplating on the same approach, only hindered by my wife's fear of living isolated. Thanks for sharing. :)

By the way, have you considered Starlink for Internet access?
