Well there was paper written on this I wish I could remember where I read it. (Site)- but effectively it said that Sri Lanka wants to avoid the Africa , Pakistan etc like deals from china and is a bit wary

- because its risks eradication for their own local industries and can be too costly ( enormous interest rates charged, really long term royalties and insistence that raw materials ( majority), all project managers and up employees to be Chinese)

The Sri Lankan government is planning to obtain a US$ 33 million credit facility from China to finance electrification of Sri Lanka's Eastern Province.

The Cabinet of ministers Wednesday approved a proposal forwarded by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to obtain the credit facility through the Export Import Bank of China.

The electrification project will provide electricity to 268 villages in the Trincomalee and Batticaloa Districts of the Province.

"The project is expected to serve the increasing needs of the people in rural areas in the Province and will enhance the economic potential in the area by increasing productivity, creating new employment opportunities and improving the living standards of the community," the government media unit said.

The Power and Energy Ministry is aiming to reach 100 percent electrification in the Province by 2012.

Mate, the main concern to me is this kind of interviews by our president to media will affect the vote base of his party (I am supporter of ruling party, in the long term my business interests will be affected if the ruling party suffers setbacks in future elections)

To me without thinking the vote base, issuing this kind of statements not good.

Sri Lankan nationalists will never vote for a person if he is seen as friendlier to India.

LTTE terrorists in the past supported by India already did maximum damage to us….

There are many disabled people in Sri Lanka affected by bomb blasts, also many people killed by bomb blasts, there families will never vote for a party, if that party seen as friendlier to India.
