First Pictures of C-17 ’Globemaster’ (F-253/IAF-1) CB-8001 for Indian air force have surfaced online , coming in tarmac from its production hanger at Long Beach Airport . Aircraft is been prepared for its first flight and ground trails are scheduled for this month , first aircraft seen in the picture will be handed over to Indian air force in mid of 2013 and Boeing has promised that all 10 aircrafts ordered by Indian air force will be handed over to Indian air force by end of 2014 .

Even with just 10 C-17 ’Globemaster’ , IAF will become second biggest operator of this transport aircraft after all deliveries are completed , United states air force is the largest operator of C-17 ’Globemaster’ . Indian air force plans to acquire Six more of this aircraft but Boeing with out any further orders from other countries will close down the production line after Indian order is completed in 2014 and Boeing has urged India to make a faster decision on follow up order of 6 aircrafts before 2014 , so that Production line can be kept open for one more year to complete India’s follow up order.

. . .
she is a beauty for sure. i only hope americans dont pull the plug on this aircraft if we dont follow their orders anymore. that would be really the biggest betrayal.

Betrayal is the wrong word. It would be unfortunate for India but entirely understandble. Hopefully the IAF thinks ahead and makes the orders for its long term projected C-17s sooner rather than later. I hear India has until late 2013 or early 2014 to make a decision on follow-ons and by then they'd have had the C-17 in their hands for some time so will be better placed to make a decision. We will see but I am pretty confident the IAF will get considerablyore C-17s than are currently on order.

yeah we need some more means 6-10 0nly. for future needs we can go for il 476 and also we cant trust US anymore because they proved themselves that they are unreliable partners.

There is no point in diversifying the fleet further the C-17 requirement is for 22-30 units total. The IL-476 has missed the boat because the IAF will soon be inducting the MRTA and the C-17 will be there also no to mention the C-130Js and C-27J/C-295 that will also soon be part of the IAF's transport fleet. Do you reay want to as another a/c to the mix? And if you were interested in doing this then the A400 is a much better option than the IL-476.
