First Official Rendering And Specifications Of Project Azm's MALE UAV

He was not talking about ANKA but Pakistan's indigenous MALE class UAV which is underdevelopment
Ok. I misunderstood then. But what I said still applies. The weapon you have no control over is not yours.
You must have complete control over the weapons you will use. This is the main goal of our domestic arms industry.

We don't want to produce everything ourselves. This is not economical. But we must be able to produce any weapon system we want when we need it.

Pakistan was(is) under sanctions for UAV engines since the 1990s. Turkey , South Africa, Brazil and the UAE have had no sanctions at all since 2000.
The Chinese have only developed decent Engines in the last 10 years.
That does tend to have an impact.

The output of guaranteed government jobs! As long as these projects stay within the domain of gov projects, let's not expect miracles.

Here's something I said on another thread:

Different categories altogether, Reaper has a much much more powerful engine than our 200hp drone.
It's in a different league altogether, and costs as much as a JF-17.
then they should make something better sir

I agree, but it's something. Maybe in later variants we'll introduce better engines, more composites, refined structure, sensors etc....

Maybe a twin engined variant as well, who knows, sky's the limit when it's your own design, being built in your own country.

Didn't know that, are we still sanctioned?

Yes - https://vcresearch.berkeley.edu/exp...d-or-embargoed-countries-entities-and-persons

Presumption of denial means you aren’t getting anything that falls under specific EAR categories and UAV engines are one of them.

Damn, they really don't want us to make drones.... Funny thing is, you could put one of their piston engines on a plane, but the moment you put it on an UAV you're getting sanctioned.
But what stopped us from using Rotax engines? Even the Chinese UAVs use them AFAIK?

Rotax engines were sanctioned too. The Chinese had less sanctions than Pakistan in many cases.

It's not just drones but cruise missile technology too.

We don't have the leg up Turkey has (thanks to its access to the MTCR and WA). But we haven't been as efficient on our end either. We've routinely gone to imports instead of investing in bottom-up R&D initiatives to create critical inputs.

Not only that, but our private sector also feels that the SOEs are predatory, thereby preventing R&D distribution (especially in entities that aren't necessarily led by the "scorty" establishment).

AvRID seems to function differently than our other SOEs. Though modest, we do have to commend them for developing their own MALE UAV in less than 10 years without the full funding might or easy technology access. These are the kind of projects, if given further investment and time, can evolve into Anka-type results.

Iran MALE UCAV drone uses Rotax engine though from Canada.
