What's new

First N-submarine may be operational by 2012

Sorry Malay but did you manage to type this with a straight face? The DRDO's failings are well known......

True DRDO's failings are known. How about something for a change ;)

The defence expenditure on imports has come down as a result of DRDO's projects. The cumulative value of the DRDO developed products amounts to about Rs. 30,000 crore. This amount can thus be attributed to the reduction in defence expenditure on import

That is around 6 billion dollars. Not bad considering that media says DRDO produces crap.

Well if people want to tout the "indigenous" thing around then the negatives will be brought up....

And I would love to see where these "savings" came from. Oh and just because it has been purchased and money saved. It doesn't make it a good product.

Yeah thanks for that dude but that whole report looked like stock footage......

Seems like the guy is speculating rather than reporting.......

Did you think I posted that to make a point,
Ofcourse it is specualtion, Didnt he report it that way, Its a hush-hush and there is no official confirmation

the video is not even the ATV, nobody knows in the public fora how the ATV looks

So lets take a look at other projects running since then shall we?????? I think the 2012 deadline will be waaaaaaay too optimistic.......
According to the news report the first should be launched this year........

Whats your point mate?

Arjun tank even after been finished and presented to the IA for induction has not been inducted into IA in numbers. IA is skeptical about its performance. So was the case with Pinaka, Nag, Lakshya etc. So you can be rest assured the IA, IN or IAF for that matter doesnt bring down its performance scale for indigeneous wepaons.

DRDO has definitly failed the nation in delivering critical weapons on time. But never the less they did manage to develop small arms, force multipliers like radar anbd avionics which was inducted and saved money.

When the PIB comes out with data such a 6 bn savings, you can be rest assured that figure is to the spot and not a doctored one. The defence accoutns are audited by CAG who have for ther many past years continously pulled up various org / dept wont wasting money.

Armed forces wont accept faulty stuff, that kinda stuff is rejected or pushed back for something better. What the army takes in is assuredly good stuff. And i would still say inspite of all faults its rather we got organisations like DRDO making something than in Pakistan where everything is just bought and there is no technology.

I am not trying to do any "indigenous " flag waving, just presenting the facts.

Interesting you have doubts about this report, compared to other "DRDO bashing" reports which are taken at face value.

Can i provide the break up of the purchase done? No.
This report comes from the reply from the defence minister himself, which I would believe rather than some "self proclaimed" defence journos who proclaim T-90 can kill Arjun.

True. And ofcourse this stands for all the countries in the world ,be it India,US,Pakistan etc....

But then "good" is relative isn't it? Indian Defence forces are very noisy when it come to taking DRDO products. If they have brought around 6 billion dollar worth of stuff, then i would say they are good enough.

Did the IA/IAF/IN see it was "good" enough yes; comparable to western systems may be not.

Dude this statement is so wrong it's almost funny. As someone who has used sub-standard equipment in the past. The idea that armed forces won't accept poor equipment is simply not true. It is dependent upon the politicians and other factors in play in the relevant country.

Dude my comments were for the uninitiated. The tone of the report (with pictures of a submarine leaving port and internal shots of said sub) was that it was already sailing away. Rather than a project under development.
YOU know it was a Diesel sub sailing away, as do I. But like I said It was for the others who wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

My point is this......I want to know WHERE these savings were made before I say something is "not crap" My point was in answer to this Phrase.

" Not bad considering that media says DRDO produces crap."

If the savings were from small arms and ammunition then it is hardly the same as a brilliant org which develops new and exciting products.

DRDO could not even make their own SAM and suddenly they announce that they have successfully made a 190 MW nuclear reactor for a nuclear submarine

I KNOW this Key. I am saying that seeing as the armed forces have rejected LOTS of $hit from DRDO, that they were trying to force down the armed forces throat, whatever they have accepted is GOOD.

This is OLD news. DRDO or whatever agency has been working on it, has managed to make a miniaturized reactor go critical. This was last years news or even older i think. With this the MAIN problem of making a nuke sub that had been plaguing India has been sucessfully solved. It was widely reported.
