ISLAMABAD: The first state of the art JF-17 Thunder multi-role fighter plane produced in Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) Kamra will roll out on Monday.

This will kick start a new era in Pak-China relationship, and aviation industry, an official source told APP here Tuesday. Both China as well as PAF attach a lot of importance to this project which is materializing after hectic and laborious efforts spread over almost a decade, he said.

The PAC has generated all the capability to produce the aircraft locally for its onward delivery to PAF besides materializing purchase orders from abroad.
The JF-17 Thunder a new generation, light-weight, all weather, day/night multi-role fighter aircraft with glass cockpit, hands-on-throttle-and-stick (HOTAS) controls and efficient man-machine interface will ensure a minimal pilot workload.

The maximum speed of Mach 1.6 and a high thrust-to-weight ratio will enable it to perform well in an air defence role. An ability to carry short- as well as long-range air-to-air missiles lends the aircraft a first shot capability.

In the surface attack role, a variety of weapons - conventional as well as precision-guided, a sophisticated avionics suite along with accurate weapon delivery system, ensure higher mission success rate.
An effective ECM suite will greatly enhance survivability of the platform. Its anticipated air-to-air refuelling capability will provide the JF-17 with more loiter time to safeguard the frontiers and the ability to deliver the required punch at distance.

It will replace the ageing fleets of A-5s, F-7Ps and the Mirages in the PAF inventory thus fulfiling a multi-role task.

Locally Assembled JF-17 To Be Unveiled On 23rd

ATTOCK: The first multi-role JF-17 Thunder jet fighter, jointly developed with China, produced at the Aircraft Manufacturing Factory (AMF) of the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) will roll out in Kamra, Attock on Nov 23.

This would be a milestone, marking the fulfilment of Pakistan Air Force’s goals of achieving self-sufficiency and strengthening its fighting capability, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Tuesday.

The ceremony for handing over the aircraft would be held in December after the formation of a full JF-17 squadron.

The final assembly of the aircraft began on June 30 in the presence of Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman.

The JF-17 aircraft, which will replace PAF’s ageing fleet of A-5s, F-7s and Mirages, will be armed with an array of conventional and precision-guided bombs, short- and beyond-visual-range air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles, enabling the air force to carry out day and night operations.

Kamra’s AMF started maintenance, re pair and overhaul of Chinese-built aircraft in 1972 and progressed to become the country’s only aircraft manufacturing facility in 1975 by assembling Mushak and Super Mushak aircraft under licence from Sweden’s Saab Scania. Later, it began producing aerial target drones.

The turning point came when the factory took part in the design, development and co-production of the Karakoram-8 aircraft with China.

The offer for joint development of a fighter aircraft was made to by the Chinese in 1992.

The JF-17 project started in 1995 with the establishment of the JF-17 Programme Management Office (PMO) at the Air Headquarters, which finalised air staff requirements, outlining the aircraft’s operational capability and performance characteristics, besides negotiating the contract for co-development activity. In 1998, a memorandum of understanding was signed for co-development and co-production.

Since then, the JF-17 PMO is managing all aspects of design and develop ment process and is overseeing the complete process till its final certification.

JF-17’s development contract was signed in June 1999, but sanctions slapped after October 1999 caused a setback and it was feared that the programme might be suspended.

A new approach was adopted in January 2001, giving the project a fresh impetus. As a result, the first prototype aircraft was completed in just 30 months, an unprecedented achievement in any modern jet fighter programme.

JF-17’s maiden flight was undertaken on Sept 3, 2003, in Chengdu, China.

Two aircraft of the small batch production were received by Pakistan on March 21, 2007, at PAC, Kamra. These aircraft participated in the March 23, 2007 fly-past.

On Jan 22, last year, a ceremony was held to launch the manufacturing of JF17 Thunder’s sub-assemblies.

At present, the PAF has eight JF-17s after it received six aircraft in March last year for testing and evaluation. These aircraft took part in the fly-past on Pakistan Day last year.

Guys, I have received news to effect that the first PAC manufactured JF-17 Thunder has already had it's test flight in primer,
Presently it's been given an exclusive paint job in green and white of Pakistan National colours for the official roll out cermony in a few days time.

You Guys can see 4 JF17 fighters in the following pic, just imagine when a full squadern will fly by the end of this year, and further imagine if 250-300 hundred of these brids will INSHA ALLAH fly by 2015, including Block-I, Block-II and Block-III...

Dubai Air Show 2009 Pakistan Shows Off K-8 Trainer for Export

Dubai – Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) showed off its K-8 Karakorum two-seat intermediate jet trainer and light attack aircraft at the Dubai Airshow along with models of its newest fighter, the JF-17 Thunder, currently under production.
PAC hopes to expand exports of the K-8 in the region, said Air Marshal Farhat Hussain Khan, PAC chairman. The aircraft are already serving in the Egyptian Air Force and the K-8 is a cost-effective trainer solution. “We do joint sales and marketing with our Chinese partners.”
The K-8 is a joint Chinese Aviation Industry Corporation (AVIC) and PAC program, as is the JF-17, he said. The Chinese variant of the trainer is the JL-8 and the fighter is the FC-1.
He confirmed reports Pakistan will procure the Chinese-built Chengdu FC-20 fighter, an export version of the J-10 fighter. However, PAC will not be participating in the co-production of the FC-20 program, Farhat Hussain said.
PAC began series production of the JF-17 this year and expects to roll out its first aircraft by the end of this month.
“We have an initial order from the Pakistan Air Force for 150, but we expect it to go to upwards of 250 JF-17s,” he said. After that, PAC hopes to begin exporting the fighter.
The JF-17 is a multi-role combat supersonic fighter equipped with both a beyond-visual-range and within-visual-range dog fighting capability. Besides supersonic, it has sub-transonic maneuverability.
It is equipped with a state-of-the-art digital glass cockpit with three large, full color Multi-Function Displays (MFD), digital moving map, Helmet Mounted Display, hands-on approach and a wide angle Smart Heads-Up Display (SHUD).
The primary sensor of the target acquisition and weapon aiming system is the multi-mode pulse Doppler radar. It also offers look-down performance and electronic counter-counter measures capability.
Despite media reports the JF-17 has suffered setbacks trying to resolve the acquisition of an engine for the aircraft the Russian-built RD-93 engines have been outfitted on the aircraft without problems, Farhat Hussain said. “The media created the issue, it was not true.”
PAC has no plans to develop an indigenous engine or avionics system for the aircraft at this time, he said. “We have no desire of becoming engine producers,” he said.
The aircraft has a maximum speed of 1.6 mach with a service ceiling of 16,700 meters and a ferry range with drop tanks of 3,000 kilometers. The weapon systems are a mix of Chinese and Pakistan systems.

is this a new or old picture?? I seem to see some small trails of smoke coming from the engine exhaust.

the earlier RD-93 engines were having this problem, though I believe it has been resolved a few years back.

These aircrafts are from the SBP(Small Batch Production).

As far as RD93 is concerned, its smoke problem has been reduced a bit, however, its not completly resolved in the RD93s which are fitted to the above aircrafts.

Yes, it has this problem, but its rumoured that in the next variant of RD93 this problem has been resolved completly and this new engine has 10% more thrust as compared to the current RD93.

May be Yes, however, i am sure that this issue has been resolved in the next improved RD93 which would be called RD93B, with 10% extra thrust, its also said that this new engine may be license produced in china for JF17.

This will ensure the smooth availability of engines for JF17.
