the problem is with engine ,that engine was not suitable for Iran climate ,and unless they answer that problem That airplane can't be a logical option for Iran
The answer to that one was always pretty simple and that was to reengine it,indeed this was considered back when the problems were first detected,one of the options was to try to obtain p+w engines but sadly because of the sanctions this just wasnt feasible,interestingly this is just what the saudis have gone and done with the antonov 132 that they are assembling.Another option would be to redesign the aircraft for jet power ltho this would probably require quite a bit of work.Personally I think its just a real shame to write off a program that had so much time,effort,money and resources put into it in favor of just buying western aircraft.
