Why the need to focus on MK1 when MK2 is clearly better. Im sure it fits a role, but I just thought like other nations they develop a products, get better with experience and then move on creating more without going into production until they meet a higher standard.

Because of various reasons, falling sqdn strength, decommissioning of Mig 27M and Mig 21F fighters, Not enough mig 27M airframes available for DARE upgrade selections, need for interim solution to ensure all Combat air patrol avtivities are still conducted in the eastern corridor without having to offset additional MKI and Mig 29 from trombay high CAP routes.

LCA mk1 is still a better system than the migs that are on the edge of retirement, hence a viable solution untill LCA MK2 gets it's FOC and flight cert from DGQCA
