The first-ever Kashmir international half marathon was marred by allegedmolestation of several girl participants by the miscreants who went on a rampage, unfurling Pakistani flag, pelting stones and vandalising the venue on the banks of famed Dal Lake on Sunday.
Police have launched a massive crackdown and arrested 12 miscreants so far for molesting and eve-teasing the girl marathoners. Massive hunt has been launched to nab the other accused in the incident.
Police said the race was flagged off as scheduled and the function was going on smoothly till some miscreants within the crowd started passing obscene and lewd comments at girl participants and those in the audience.
"The incidents of passing remarks were also witnessed at Habbak crossing on the banks of Dal Lake. Instances of molestation of girls by rowdy elements were reported at the Kashmir University and en-route," said a police spokesman.
As the event kicked off, some in the crowd started raising pro-Pakistan slogans and unfurled a Pakistan flag creating a chaotic situation. When the police went to quell the mob, the youth resorted to heavy stone pelting.
"Everything that was lying on the ground was uprooted. From banners to refreshments, everything was thrown on the police. Water bottles were used as missiles to target the cops and organisers," said an eye witness. Later some youth vandalised the stage and tried to set ablaze a police vehicle. Police had to use smoke shells and lathi charge to disperse the mob.

Theses nutters should be limited to Geelani's rally only, I hope police takes strict action against these miscreants.
