MUMBAI: Nearly a year after 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, Maharashtra government has begun the process of strengthening its intelligence cadre with the deployment of the first batch of Force One, an elite commando force formed on the lines of National Security Guards (NSG).

"The first batch of intelligence cadre trained at Maharashtra Intelligence Academy is out on the job and training for the next batch is on," a senior official from home department said.

The intelligence agencies came under fire after the attacks, following allegations that they failed in providing information about the attacks to police department and the government.

The government claimed that it has done a lot of work after the attacks, like upgradation of police force and forming Force One.

"A fund of Rs 126 crore was made available for the security measures and we would soon make the information on security measures public so that people know that a lot of things have been done in the city for their security," the official said. :smitten:

Setting up the Force One was a major step taken by the government and its first batch is ready for assignment, the official said.

Over 1,600 young policemen from the state expressed their willingness to join the Force and were given rigorous training by Israeli and German trainers, he said.

All said and done I must thank Paksitan for exposing our loopholes, especially Kargil and next Mumbai. I only pray that the
other loopholes are figured out by our own agencies

Apart from a cool name, what will be their role, specifically?

The article first claims that they are commandos, which led me to believe that they are a part of the Army, but later it seemed to indicate that they are a fighting unit within civilian intelligence. The "police" reference also means that they could also be a paramilitary unit of some sort. Could anyone enlighten me?

To my understanding mate , most of these guys are hand picked from state owned specialised anti-terror units and some are also chosen from police force who are going through rigorous commando training.
Hope my 2 cents help..
xx:cheers:

Only if loopholes and gaps were static. Threats change over time. While terrorism is bad for both Pakistan and India, its a matter of playing catchup on the side of law enforcement most of the time. This is the reality of the situation. I doubt if India has a higher security than what Pakistan has in place currently and despite that the results are in front of every one.

That is precisely what I said, that the agencies better do a good job. As for Pakistan haveing a better security. Well I sincerely hope so. Our common enemy of terrorism is serious and big, not only that those coward target civilians....They have to be stopped at all costs

We celebrated aniversary of 26/11 but you cannot, Pakistan has it every day, we are doing eveything possible to restrict the militants pushed from pakistan to India.... This clearly states how our security is, Now I doubt of any such attacks, as we have more and more security... FORCE one and NSG is going to be upgraded soon...

There is a reason they are not part of army. In India law and order is considered as state subject, which means center cannot act unless requested by state. The states take their own time to ask center for help. Having such force will mean we have resources locally to fight trained terrorist. I see that in Pakistan the forces are well equipped or army jumps fast. Can someone help me learn the process. I also feel that normal policemen should have better weapons. I saw a scene in CST shootout the policemen had good chance of killing Kasab had he got good weapons. So for me having good weapons all over is important, also we shoul provide training to most policemen.
