First Akash missile system to fill gap in air defence

Tell me something, how is Akash systems relevant, its range is pretty low, enemy would never fly so low even for ground attack, because he has long range missile system... I don't get the point..

As per NASA high performance jet flight can travel at an altitudes of 25.9 KM or below

Commercial airliners fly at about 10.6 KM.

But Max altitude of F-22 is 15 KM

So it is enough as of now in normal case, but we need to improve it altitude to 25 KM in future for worst case.

Great news !!!!!!!!! As someone said these orders will only help DRDO make a better product. Its a beautiful cycle -- where in AF after they receive the delivery will test the product and will pass on the f/b....evolution is successful only if it is given a chance to survive.

How prone is this to jammers ? PAF blck 52's has the latest jammers...i suppose Akash will be very susceptible to jamming..how to counter this threat ?

its hard to jam akash missile because it uses dual mode homing device which are hard to jam as they constantly change frequency in flight.

Akash' range is max 25 km, which does not mean that it can shoot down a military air craft which zooms around 15km altitude. 25Km is the 'range' of the SAM. Do not think that aircraft is standstill in the air to get a SAM hit. Just think about the scenerio that the Jet is approaching at Mach1 (1225km/hr), then? 25km range is very less in that case unless the Jet's flying low altitude.

altitude - hight

Akash max range is only 25 KM - 30 KM, with decreased payload.

But we are talking about max altitude ie. 18 km only

Akash travels at Mach 2.5 so it can hit any flight below 18 km alt, but not above that alt as of now

flight will not only refer to Combat jets but also the missiles parabola(area of flight dynamics) which is very crucial.

It does not use a seeker but is guided by the radar throughout it's flight path.

You jam the fire control radar, you diminish the lethality of this system.

Though this is true for almost every AD system out there, just that actively guided missiles become independant of the radar when the target is within the range of their on board seeker.

AAD and PAD r not SAM's,they r ABM's,they cannot target Cruise missiles and fighter jets

On topic,I think the govt is not at all interested much in long range SAM's,the only 1 in which they had invested is Barak 8 that to have only a range of 70 km's

Definitely they will. India has the closest relation with Russia in-terms of defence. From nuke submarine to fifth generation fighter, from space to cargo plane. But mostly they may ask to wait for some time. Also remember that there is no system unlike S-400 except SM-6, that is not land based.

And dude, PAD, AAD, PDV, AD-1, AD-2 etc are not SAM but dedicated ABM.
