Fire Power At Army Day 2010

.
Hey sry bro, i posted some same pics on another thread. Sry dint see they were posted here to, my bad lol

.
the first leopard tank wasn't slanted. only latter on and it made it heavier. If the Indian military requires more armour for the Arjun, it can come from reactive armour which DRDO designed for the T-72 and family.
But from what I've heard the Arjun in the future will have NERA, not ERA.

And why do you think the Leopard 2A6 had it's armor angles changed? The weight doesn't necessarily have to come from the armor, it can come from newer equipments and greater number of ammunition supplies. However, if the weight is increased for more round deflection, it's well worth it, just that the tank is unable to run on standard roads.

the merits of slanted armor are known.

We just have to wait for them to be implemented.

weight could be an issue who knows

Yes yes, i can understand the pride, but i was not exactly hitting on that. i was more concerned of the fact that armor have moved ahead of those 'achievements' that you mentioned and you need to reach there fast ;)

Point taken !! :) But the current armour is in par with contemporary tanks. There have been reports of a new honeycomb design Non-explosive and non-energetic reactive armour (NERA) armour being tested on the Arjun and is reported to be working perfectly. LINK

Tandem head is mainly there to counter reactive armor.

However, PG-7VR (which also works on the tandem thing) was specifically designed to defeat composite armor.

But still an APS could hopefully counter them.

Btw, RPG-30 "Abrams Killer" is my fav. ;)

Well, 36 years of research had to yield some results!

Or who would let them live ;)

Well, at least it is better than assembling Chinese kits and calling them Made in Pakistan.

hmm.. thats refreshingly honest sir.. Hope you dont get flamed..

Though assembling kits is not a bad idea. I still remember 1980's when suzuki had come to india and the maruti 800 (their first car) was virtually made in japan and shipped here for assembly. In less than 20 years, their Swift model actually got designed and developed in India. Most of the manufacturing for export also happens in india as well. So I believe, baby steps have their importance..

It also depends on how do you plan. While India surely want to build self reliance, Pakistan wants capability whatever it takes.

I doubt the statement.. I think every one knows how important it is to have self-reliance however this is not something that can be easily achieved and requires lot of $$$... If you look closely you will see almost all of our big defense items took significant time and money.... Some of them are still being worked upon...

Pakistan as of now can be termed as cash starved economy....With much bigger India considered as existential threat your immediate priority is to ensure you are qualitatively superior to your adversary because quantitatively you cannot and thus the tilt towards western toys from the beginning and less money allocation for being indigenous...... India on the other hand is keeping the defense forces relatively modern by going for western/russian items and side by side keeping the indigenous efforts on...

In short the point i am making is given a chance almost every country would like to go indigenous way... bigger question is do you have that many resources and time???
