I remember once , when only one side side used to be blocked, i was stuck in the fast lane in front of the jinnah park signal, and some brave SSG commandos were pointing their guns at schoolgirls as to why they were on the footpath because the mighty 4 star or 5 star general was to pass! How dare a kami kameen be on the road at the time? How dare?

Ok, tell me what do these Generals talk about in their Corp Commander Meetings? Arranging Rishta? Or where to invest their personal money for best return? These guys command 10k+ troops into battle, they've earned their ranks based on merit not due to family property.

I rather have a rich retired General, who in his youth was ready to sacrifice everything for the country he loves, with 1,000 acres of land than corrupt politician.

Now comes the issue of moving military assets. For starters, the military should realize that it is high time it abandons its real estate ideals of settling near cities and moves out of these areas. Apart from the Pentagon, people dont keep military cantonments and bases near settlements. For a country plagued by terrorist and with massive blows to it already these issues are already well clear.

You'll just establish areas around the cantonments. Even the the US, where there was a fort its now surrounded by development. Usually the houses of the service members, and businesses that cater to the industry.

Anyways, there is SOP and there is Abuse of Power.

If I will meet any high ranking official, I will definitely raise this question and tell him a complete story what was happened .... if military start doing this.. trust me... they will get same aggressive response from the public and this is seriously extremely bad for them.. I remember the situation/environment and public response "Against" the army in Musharaf era... Army completely lost respect because of 911 policy... after years - n - years.. Military recover respect in front of the public... people of this nation is fedup ... completely fedup with this VVIP culture... If they were responding to an emergency concerning a terror attack, the troops should have gone by choppers and not by road! So, in other words, this wasn't an emergency where the roads had to be cleared for a military convoy to pass.

Mmm, I've never seen a US military convoy try to get through a US city. I assume it must happen sometimes, but I've never seen it. The US army isn't given to convoying around as much as you'd think though. They have large bases, and mainly stick to them. They aren't going off to N. Dakota to fight insurgents, so our situations are a bit different.

I have *passed* US military convoys, out in the countryside. They tend to follow the law very exactly, and no one else drives the speed limit, so they are the slowest traffic. But @Oscar has a point, most US bases are away from large cities, or the city exists almost solely because of the base. Or, in the case of San Diego, they have a chunk of the city to themselves (Coronado) Google Maps

Naval bases are a bit less intrusive anyhow.

But to someone else's point, Americans do at times resent Presidential VIP treatment when it blocks roads. It tends to come out from people who already don't like whoever is president at the moment, or if there is some really dumbass thing going on - Bill Clinton was ripped pretty good for getting a haircut on Airforce One while on the runway, holding up other aircraft. (The story is disputed, but people have been bothered by Presidents). Lesser VIPs get little to no tolerance for prima donna behavior here. Hollywood uses the trope to show that a character is an ***, not that he's important.

What an utterly stupid post!

Blocking a high security convoy is a national offense! Confusing Security Protocol with ''VVIPism'' is sheer ignorance. Tomorrow if Turkish or Chinese or US President or any other high profile international delegation visits Pakistan that remains the hot-bed of TTP and terrorism, do you think it is justified that we as a public start to block there paths and object that why they did not stop at the red traffic light??

Security Protocols are a reality of life and a globally accepted procedure. Let us not try to impose stupid wisdom where actually common sense can answer a lot more!
