Last month's fire at a "security installation" in Kahuta, Pakistan, did not grab world headlines but it presents a scary picture, according to an assessment by the Indian government.

Kahuta is the hub of the neighbouring country's nuclear weapons programme as it houses a uranium enrichment plant and a short-range missile fabrication facility.

India has always been wary of Pakistan's nuclear weapons falling into the hands of extremist groups, particularly in the backdrop of last year's terror attack near Karachi's nuclear facility.

Highly placed government sources claimed that a multi-programme research institute managed and operated under close scrutiny of the Pakistan army was damaged in the fire.

Fire fighters took two hours to control the blaze. The extent of damage was 65 per cent, which is substantial and a cause for concern, sources said.

Yet, no word is available on the incident till date from the Pakistani establishment, except that lightning may have been responsible for it.

The Indian assessment also points to a series of incidents that took place in and around Kahuta around the same time. Days after the fire, two terrorists were arrested from the area near the Kahuta Research Laboratory.

One of them is reportedly from Pakistan 0ccupied Kashmir and the other is from the Bajaur tribal agency, sources reported.

Bullshit news from bullshit specialists

RAWALPINDI, May 13: A substantial part of a section of a sensitive government installation in Kahuta was heavily damaged when its building was struck by lightning on Saturday night, Dawn learnt on Sunday through a security source.

The source said that during a thunderstorm at around 10.30pm on Saturday, the lightning struck the technical department of the installation, about 60km from Islamabad, and triggered a blaze.

Fire-fighters and senior officers reached the place soon after the flames engulfed the building. It took the department’s fire-fighters two hours to bring the fire under control. By that time, the source said, over 65 per cent of the building had been gutted. He added that police and fire services of the civil administration were not involved in the operation. There was no casualty.

P.S. Don't come with lame argument that its a western propaganda.

Its still kind of stupid of some media to portray a warehouse fire like it was three mile Island..

Oh wait.. I suppose thunderstorms in Pakistan have been taken over by terrorists and somehow India was able to see them in the act..
Height of idiocy.. but ah.. lets see what ludicrous defence is put up by those that must prove India right by hook or by crook

Indeed it is stupid...you know...I mean...err...it's a nuclear installation...if just a lightning managed to cause 65 % damage...imagine what happens if it becomes a target for a missile strike!! :triniti:

I understand accidents are a part of power plants... but how can a country does not have a plan in case of accidents in a nuclear power plant...? And btw Kahuta is thought to be the powerplant where the early nuclear weapons were developed by Pakistan...

Countries like Pakistan with no back up plan dont deserve nuclear energy ..not for civilian purposes and neither for military purposes..
