Weight in lb, and Thrust in lbf.
3505 kg = 7729 lb
*21,829 extra thrust for 3 min & alt less than 4000m.
** Empty weight + 7729 lb exceeds max takeoff weight.
Su-35BM, Su-30MKK, J-10's weights are rough estimates.

Debatable figures.............

I would agree with nabil. Current TWR of JF17 is higher than what has been written, but I dont have the exact figures.A senior poster confided in me that it was in the 0.90-0.95 region, but cant say for sure as figures are not officially available. Also it misses out the TWR of the Current Gripen C/D.
We might get better info after farnborough though.

TWR of jf-17 must be comparable to f-16 blk 52 atleast because its a light weight aircraft .... i think block II with upgraded WS-13 might reach that level.

.
A lot of the perceived usefulness of the thrust comes from the aerodynamics of the airframe. You can have gobs of thrust, and without excellent lift, you get a rocket rather than a fighter.

For example, here is an aircraft from the late 1950's... see if anyone can guess what it is. It has a thust to weight of 1.1 : 1

Empty Weight - Thrust - Fighter
14,250 - 15,800 X 1 - ?????

Hint: It is not an F-104. It is not even a fighter!

So while thrust to weight is a good sign of excellent performance, the entire package must be considered.

. .
That didn't take long! :yahoo:

I guess it was too easy. Years ago, we were looking at various EM diagrams, and the instructor put the U-2's up there, but didn't identify the aircraft. Everyone gasped at the perceived performance. Then he revealed it was a U-2, and we learned that EM diagrams are useful, but don't tell the whole story.

.
anything having TWR 1.1 is good enough Thunder needs TWR of atleast 1.1

.
It has 0.96 with rd-93 at the moment as per my info

.
There is no way F-15 beats F-22. This list must be old with outdated data. I saw the list with a lot more aircraft.

.
Found it. Good thing I saved it.

# Data from Official Company & Military sites, Aerospaceweb.org, Airwar.ru, Globalsecurity.org, Fas.org, Warfare.ru, Wikipedia.org & its References, and Other Sources.
# Weight in lb, and Thrust in lbf.
# 3505 kg = 7727 lb
# Not all of them are Fighter Planes.
# Some of the Fighters' data couldn't be obtained, and hence could not be included in the above list.

* Klimov States that Thrust as "Take-off emergency mode"
** The conditions for 21,829lbf Emergency Thrust are limited to 3 Minutes and Altitude less than 4000m.
*** Empty weight + 7727 lb exceeds max takeoff weight. Except Mig-19 all other less MTOW(Maximum Take-Off Weight) fighter planes are omitted.

Yea. TWR, Wing Loading & Airframe G-limits are extremely important for a dogfighter.

Without a good TWR, you won't accelerate or climb fast. Also when turning you lose energy fast. The only way to quickly regain the energy is to have a good TWR, preferably greater than 1.

It's interesting to see MKIs TWR lesser than MKKs. MKI is a bit heavier due to canards and thrust vectoring, but with the same engines.

Tejas beats JF-17 there. JF-17 is heavier and has less engine thrust than the Tejas. The funny thing is IAF was complaining about the low twr of Tejas to DRDO/ADA because of the low thrust engines. They should have first checked out what the Tejas' opponent had before complaining.

The Soviets advised the Arabs never to get into a turn fight with the Mirages since it had good wing loading than the Mig-21. They told them to capitalize on Mig-21s better thrust to weight and perform hit and run tactics like the U.S WW-2 fighters did on low wing loading/maneuverable Japanese Zeros. I guess they didn't listen.

It's saddening to see that the difference between a 1960/70's Mig-21Bis and 2010's Tejas is only 0.08. That too with a foreign engine on Tejas. No wonder IAF is obsessed with this fighter. With the advent of BVRs and net centric warfare TWR takes a secondary role. But in a war you never know what will happen. Considering jamming and given the distance between India and Pak, it's likely some engagements will be in WVR.

Looks like the chinese F-7 & J-7s Engines still can't match the good old Mig-21's Tumanskiys even after 4 decades of Reverse engineering. Pathetic!

Mig-35's is only slightly lower than Eurofighter's. Mig-29K are very heavy. Same goes for F-35. I remember a RAND study which blasted F-35s poor performance in WVR when simulated against Russian fighters. F-22 is the top dog.

Wikipedia? See the engine data. That is wrong. Rd-33/Rd-93 thrust is 18300 normal afterburner. And the empty weight is wrong as well.
