Fighter-jet engines stolen from Israeli base

Fighter-jet engines stolen from Israeli base | World | DAWN.COM

JERUSALEM: Israel’s military police on Monday opened an inquiry into the theft of airplane parts, a spokeswoman said without confirming press reports that eight fighter-jet engines had been stolen.

“The military police have opened an inquiry into the matter,” she said without giving further detail or confirming reports of the theft from Tel Nof airbase near Tel Aviv.

Air force officials quoted in the Maariv newspaper said the stolen parts were eight engines from F-15 and F-16 fighter jets which were taken from Tel Nof air base.

Investigators quoted by the paper said each engine weighed “several tonnes” and could only have been taken away on large trucks, prompting speculation that the thieves had help from inside the base.

Military officials quoted by Israel HaYom newspaper described the theft as “very serious.”—AFP

Russian arms mafia style "theft" - it would be anyone's guess who can be interested in PW & GE engines for F-16 & F-15 ;)

And they say Pakistan has security lapses , lol engines of f-15's and f-16's are quite costly ones and too big to easily stole them , how the heck thieves did so, Interesting thing is what they will do with these engines , they can't sell it openly in market as they will be caught, they can't use it for their own purpose as being civilians they surely will not be having f-16's or f-15's parked at home .

May be a secret shipment to some other country operating same aircrafts, or selling the engines in scrap lol i hope they don't put it in their private cars just to attain a mach 2 speed on roads

It is from June 2011. This was obviously an inside job, no one can walk out of a military base with jet engines and have no one notice.

So has anyone get caught yet ? or the engines taken back?

I never saw an update, I'm guessing it was either solved internally, or they weren't actually stolen at all. (i.e. misplaced)

If they wouldn't have been stolen and just misplaced than why would there have been cry about engines stolen by israeli airforce authorities knwoing that it would raise question marks regarding their airbase security, also if they would have been found out why wouldn't have they told the public about that to ease the nerves of those who raised question marks?

It could be that either they didn't find the culprit or the culprit was someone insider ,so to avoid that it never made public again

Wow, I though the Israelis were very strict about security. Eight engines of F-16 and F-15? Wow, just wow

Do you have any evidence?

We don't even need those F100 class engines anymore.

Those "F100 class" engines are superb, reliable units that operate thousands and thousands of front-line fighters.

I'm not blaming China, but it's silly to say they wouldn't be interested, as would dozens of countries.
