Cat persons are more likely to be gentle, empathetic and philosophical. Prophet Muhammad, Lenin, Gaddafi to mention a few.

Anyway, people try to seek like minded company. A softhearted person will look for a gentle dog. A cruel/aggressive person may look for a wolf.
May be it requires patience with the cat so cat raisers either quit or learn patience.

And sometimes the woman's parents do harm. There was a case some years ago in Bangalore city where a woman faced domestic problems including violence. She had children. She came away to her parents house but after some days they sent her back. IIRC she lodged a police complaint and then her parents conspired with her husband to declare her mentally unsound and had her admitted to a psychiatric asylum. The people there eventually found that she wasn't unsound at all and that she had being suffering troubles from her husband. They released her and I think she got into a women's shelter and found a lawyer to fight her case. This was in the newspapers. Her own parents were her enemies.

This is so sad. It can be social or financial pressure that parents did that. I don't think they didn't love their child but thought that its better for her. parents think they know better and domestic violence is norm or "parm para"

Counseling for who ?

For the bride family. All in surrounding encourage for dowry citing it is a necessity. If people are counselled by an org and they support the bride family, I think the groom will be under pressure not to take the dowry.
