Female chess players protest wearing hijab at Iran world championship

See here is what I think is wrong with Iran.

If they allow women be free, even encourage the "bay watch" types ..
A few bikini / topless weeks later the whole world will fall in love with Iran.
I've seen the same about KSA... :D

You are going too far.

Comparing dressing modestly with a forced Hijab is not correct my friend.

Yes, Pakistan does not allow nudity, but Pakistan does not force "Hijab" either.

Holland does not force people to be nude but if someone wants to do it in specially designated aread, the govt tolerates that.

Again both of you are wrong, those who want to enforce it and those who want to oppose it.

For someone who values nudity as a right, then they would consider Pakistan intolerant, like they might also consider how pornography being illegal is against their free speech.

To me, I think, real tolerance is to understand that each society should be allowed to build the laws as per their wishes.

No. International events should apply to international standards. If some country does not want to follow these standards it should not host international events.
What's international code of dress ?

This must be very old these days the trend is not to close the buttons , in fact if you want be fashionable the front of your clothes at least must be 25cm open and todays using that headscarf made you look too conservative.

Their country their rules. Don't go if you don't like it. Same applies to the reverse and burka bans etc.

Not exactly true.Maybe the female chessplayers don't want to go to Iran but that country hosts an international event. Why should they be forced to some bizzare dress code to attend that event ? Ofcourse, the fault firstly lies with the Chess Federation who chose to have this event in these kind of regressive country.

I agree that the fault lies with the Chess Federation. See, I don't agree with Hijab and Niqab stuff but the thing is doing it forcefully will only make people resent it and there will be an expected backlash. However, what is acceptable now may be regressive in a few decades. Time needs to be appropriated for change.

Besides, this will also lead credence to establishment of fiercely secular laws in European and other Western countries... I mean, they followed the norms in Iran, so no special grounds for your religious stuff in the West. I agree on in purely on the basis of fairness.

World cup? Why would Qatar have problems with the World cup?

I can only imagine tens of thousands of fans drinking alcohol, women not downing islamic attire in the streets, skimpy outfits as it will be very hot.....in Qatar.

I imagine Alcohol wouldn't be sold and I'm pretty sure women from all over the western world won't come to Qatar, they can simply watch it.

lol.....you can't not sell alcohol when European fans get there or prohibiting women not to come.....that's not a World Cup but a travesty.
