FBR to launch crackdown against Karachi beauty parlours

This govt is stupid and taking the easy way.--- beauty parlors are mostly run by middle class women. ---- Imran Khan must grow some balls and bring mafias like lawyers under tax net.
spare the rich elite & mafias and harass the weak, typical Pakistani govt.

Lol.

Do you know how much they charge?

Do you know how much they pay their employees???

Couple it with the excruciating tax collection regimes!!! Now may be the time for Bajis to concentrate more into cooking than manicure.....

You know many of these bajis earn a lot more than an average joe. A good salon with good reputation will charge upward of 50k for 1 bridal session. yet they will pay their employees 10-15k per month.

This salons are money making machines.

six professions that need to be taxed and scrutinized for real tax potential are
1- doctors
2- lawyers
3- beauty parlors
4- Restaurants
5- any one with agricultural land above 25 acres or fruit orchid above 5 acres
6- whole sale dealers

All above are minting money and paying almost taxes way below their potential.

they will simply raise cost of their services and burden will be borne by common public.Already cosmetics products and electricity is heavily taxed and govt is collecting indirect taxes from them.registration will never solve problem and many businesses currently registered are paying less taxes by showing less income in returns by collusions with tax consultancy firms in which shabar zaidi has served his whole life.Registration will only increase revenue earned by such firms in the form of bribe which they earn by manipulation
Easy way to deal with this without need of any registration and complexity is to ask such businesses to pay 2 percent of revenue earned as a tax to govt and govt can estimate their revenue by sudden surprise cash count at end of the business day at their cash collecting sites and there is no need to register them in and ask them to file tax returns which are mostly false representation of revenue earned by business

What a beautiful idea. Govt should now daily cash up for every business. FML

FBR can try but why would these business pay taxes when there are no consequences for not doing so? The FBR can't do much more than freeze their bank accounts. These are cash businesses so they won't care.

We have the lowest financial penetration rates in the world i.e. very few people in Pakistan have bank accounts. Also debit card usage is not free so businesses prefer cash. Cash also allows you to evade taxes.

Why would businesses sign up to give the government free money? What's in it for them? There are just two benefits to living in Pakistan. The low cost of living and the fact that it is a tax haven in all but name. If you start charging taxes a lot of businessmen will simply move to another country.

Those type of businesses should move out of the country and pay taxes in those country. Why the should govt incentivise business to complete their duty.

it is not about daily checking cash, if govt carryout cash count at a random day of multiple businesses of same nature it can get idea about their avg earning each month and they can charge tax on estimated earnings and tally it with details provided by business

These beauty parlors are minting millions in cash .. good move to tax them & no one is going out of business these scums are making a fortune they should pay due taxes for operating to the state of pakistan ... badmashi nahi chalay gi

My problem with this is that there's an ocean of very profitable businesses in Karachi they could be targeting and they are instead picking on the weaker ones.

Pakistan's biggest markets in Saddar blatantly avoid taxis, bring in smuggled goods and find every nook and cranny of the law pinching paisas. But the ones getting targeted are beauty parlours, which are usually run by girls in the family mostly as hobbies and aren't exactly high yield for taxes.

It's not that they should not be taxed. Every business, and every taxable income needs to be brought into the tax net. But they need to start from the top and work their way to the bottom, and not the other way aroujnd.

It's curious to me, why single out beauty parlours here? There's a milkshop, mechanic, hardware store, grocery store, panwala, real estate guy, and myriads of other untaxed businesses at every street corner in Karachi. I guess they're not fun to harass. Perhaps the FBR officials are simply looking for a peek inside now that Ramzan is over.
Sirkar there are multiple brands of beauty parlors with significant branch networks avg for a bride these guys charge over 100k + in a shadi season they are making a fortune “ this is conservative real estimates are to be seen” if they are forking out this much money why cant they pay due taxes ? This is badmashi mixed with black mailing and trsut me none of them will close shops as they have no where to go next in line are the rest

Because that's what economics is. If businesses leave they will take their jobs with them. Another country will be enriched instead.
