Father of Child Maid " Forgive " Judge For Alleged Torture

The father of a child maid allegedly tortured by an additional district and sessions judge (ADSJ) in Islamabad said he 'forgave' the suspect and his wife a second time during a hearing of the case on Friday.

ADSJ Raja Khurram Ali Khan, and his wife were facing an inquiry for their alleged involvement in keeping juvenile housemaid Tayyaba in wrongful confinement, burning her hand over a missing broom, beating her with a ladle, detaining her in a storeroom and threatening her with dire consequences.

During a hearing of the case before an additional district and sessions court today, Mohammad Azam, Tayyaba's father, said he forgave Khurram and his wife, adding that the case was "baseless".

Azam maintained that Khurram and his wife are not the criminals in the case and that a petition has been filed against the real criminals with police.

In an affidavit submitted in court, Tayyaba's father stated that he would have "no objections" if the court decides to grant bail to the judge and his wife.

Appearing before the court earlier in January, Azam had forgiven the judge and his wife and claimed that he had investigated the matter on his own and found the case to be a false one.

However, when he appeared before the Supreme Court later, Tayyaba's father had retracted his statement and said he had forgiven the suspects after being pressured.

"You had backtracked from your earlier statement as well," ADSJ Raja Asif who was hearing the case today told Azam, and assured him that there was no need to be scared.

"Are you giving this statement of your own accord? Is there any pressure on you?" the judge asked, adding, "The court will protect you."

Mohammad Azam, however, repeated his stance, saying "I forgive Raja Khurram and his wife."

Judge Raja Asif granted bail to Raja Khurram and his wife against surety bonds of Rs30,000 each.

Well this is becoming quite a habbit of our nation forgive the criminal and keep living in fear! We all have become cowards!

Raymond Davis case ,shahziab murder case or poor little tayaba case.... what else can we do if our opponent has a strong financial and political or legal background other then forgiving.I wish state would have enough courage to pursue this case .

nope... we dont have such laws.. you cant forgive(you can but law has got nothing to do with it), you cant pay blood money... I am talking the law, not the implementation. Agree about implementation in third world is bad regardless.

It's not about laws, it's about implementation of laws in third world, in which India similarly poor as any other third world country.
Every third world country has equal or even better laws than any developed country.

It's not about laws, it's about implementation of laws in third world, in which India similarly poor as any other third world country.
Every third world country has equal or even better laws than any developed country.
The law of blood money is simplified in wrong way, like any other law. Here it's not blood money law, the father simply forgives.

the father can forgive, its upto him, my question is this 'does it matter in pakistani law whether father forgives or not'... if it does then its a bad law already, at least if the law is good, there is a chance that honest prosecutor/judge can bring some relief to wronged, with bad laws, even their hands are tied.
Good laws are necessary, not sufficient for justice... its the first step. How can pakistan, a third world country that knows the reality of the society(people will be bullied to forgive) keep such laws, its obviously open to abuse and not suitable for the society.

You are nobody to point fingers at other's laws, call your laws as good and other's as bad, when your own country is not crime free because of your own good laws. India's crime rate is as high as any other poor country.

Good laws are necessary, not sufficient for justice... its the first step. How can pakistan, a third world country that knows the reality of the society(people will be bullied to forgive) keep such laws, its obviously open to abuse and not suitable for the society.

No matter how much a law is good, with no implementing system it's zero. That's what problem of third world i.e. corrupt system.
