‘Falsely implicated’ in China, mother seeks help from Pak govt

By Obaid Abbasi

ISLAMABAD:

Family of Pakistani national, who has been issued a death sentence in China and is currently behind the bars over there, has sought assistance from the local government for his release.

Syed Zahid Hussain from Haripur district is facing imprisonment in China for the last three years for his alleged involvement in a drug-case and Shanghai Supreme Court has announced to award him death sentence on September 21.

The Chinese authorities informed the family members to meet him for the last time on September 14 before his death sentence and they have no option but to seek help from Pakistani government.

Talking to The Express Tribune Raffia Bibi, mother of Hussain, said that her son had a business of import and export of jewellery. For the last 14 years he used to visit places like China, Korea and Thailand for his business.

She informed that on December 28, 2008 his son went to China for business purpose where his business partners were already there, including Peter, a Nigerian national. She claimed that his son wanted to separate them from his business and when their business partners came to know they decided to implicate him in a drug case.

“I was shocked to know in 2008 that the Chinese police had arrested my son in connection with a drug case,” said her mother, with tears rolling down from her eyes.

She said that his business partners, especially Peter, made a plan in connivance with other fellows and wrongly implicated Shah in the case.

“Not a single pack of hashish was recovered from his custody when police raided his room in the Shahghai hotel, even then they had charged him which is unjust.”

She said the Chinese authorities have told her that if the President of Pakistan asked them, Shah’s punishment could be reversed.

“I have sent several applications to the Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and President Asif Ali Zardari but no action has been taken to address this matter from their side.

Everyone knows, if you are a drug dealer here, you don't get any mercy.

Though if the Pakistani President asks us for a favour, then I'm sure we can hand him back to them, so they can punish him instead.

Really! Are you kidding? In China once sentenced to death means death. I think as a Chinese you should know better than me regarding your government

Yeah, right.

IF chinese haven't found anything from that pakistani then why have they arrested him??????????

Its unjustice.

Chines law regarding drug dealing is very strict....any involvement or any one suspected to be involved in any kind of drug peddling or dealing is harshly dealt with. so not surprised if he is arrested on the basis of doubts and then falsely implicated him.

I think in china drug related crimes are very serious issue. The nigereans are involved in drug traffiking all over the world.the pakistani person should have been more careful about who is he dealing with.

Usually, yes. But Pakistan is our closest ally, and if you actually read the article, it says that the Chinese authorities would accept it if it was a direct request from the Pakistani President.

.
Ok if he was involved in any drug dealing then China has every right to punish him,

But if he was not involved in any kind of drug dealing, then he should be released.

(no patriotism was involved in this post)

But why are you calling a innocent pakistani a drug dealer on what basis?????????

Plz, don't defame innocent pakistani as nothing has been recovered from that pakistani person not a gram of drugs so how he becomes a drug dealer???????????

Pakistan and Pakistani nationals are always treated with special favour in China...so i dont feel surprised if China release them.

Come on, at the risk of overtly generalizing an entire nation IMO most Nigerians come to south Asia and east Asia to smuggle drugs. If this guy had them as business partners, I am pretty sure he had something to do with the drugs. May be he is smuggling Afghan drugs into China. By the way how are you proclaiming him to be innocent? Obviously you heard just one sided narration.
