Why would there be a $1 billion remmitance to China ?
1. China: $992,000,000
2. Indonesia: $276,000,000
5. Vietnam: $96,000,000

I can understand these - there are Bangladeshis
3. Malaysia: $202,000,000
4. India: $126,000,000

what you describe is importing goods not remmitance. you make it sound Indians work in Bangladesh and are sending $4 billion back.

Remittance that you are seeing are mostly for treatment and studying. I don’t know what other criteria are officially allowed.

Bangladesh does not have info on unofficial source. Bangladesh does not allow sending money abroad except for tuition and treatment only.

Billions of dollar worth of goods are sent to Bangladesh from India through hundi.

It is literally taken into account by the UN methodology. I have already explained this in the thread already.

These estimates are the total official+unofficial remittance.

If you want to question their methodology (by use of capital-current account discrepancy + estimated migrant stock), thats fine....but you cannot say they are "official" only.

Below is what Wiki says. It says Bangladesh receives $4,033 million from India. But, some other source says it is India that receives more than $4,000 million from Bangladesh. So, I am not really sure what is the truth. Thing is, people go abroad and work hard for survival for themselves and their families. A person does not steal money from the host country. Rather, he works hard and Allah bestows him with his Rizq. We do not have to make a fuss over this issue.

Prior to 2013, the UN/WB source estimate had 1 million indian residents in Bangladesh and this dropped to just 33k in later estimates (2014 - current year).

This is big part of the reduction from estimated remittance of 4 billion to just 100 million or so from BD to India by UN/WB.

Where other sources are still quoting the 4 billion figure for this direction, simply means they are still using the data source from 2012 and earlier.

Yes, this is what they cannot take out of capital account itself (companies wise) which may be much larger....i.e this is current account portion of remitting earnings by chinese people in Bangladesh.

Things get fuzzier when it is neighbouring country with many financial networks (off the radar) like say between India and BD.
