The practice of politicians falling at the feet of their leaders to secure their “blessings” is common in Hindu India as it is part of the culture of respecting “elders” or “seniors”. In the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, however, the practice assumed ugly forms during the regime of the Late J.Jayalalithaa , when even senior cabinet ministers had to fall at her feet in public view if they were not to be kicked out of office.

There is now evidence that a similar servile culture has crossed the international border into Bangladesh. On Thursday, the recently re-elected Mayor of Comilla City, Monirul Haque Sakku, bent low to touch the feet of Awami League chief and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina after he was sworn-in.

Perhaps Monirul Haque was following the traditional Bengali culture in which falling at the feet of elders or superiors is the done thing. But one wonders if that is allowed in Islam in which one bows or worships only Allah and none else. But then Bangladesh’s culture is a colorful and fascinating mixture the Islamic and the Bengali Hindu traditions.

You better marry a Ukrainian girl then. Bangladeshi father/mother-in-laws would expect you to touch their feet. Otherwise you would be labelled as a beyadob pola.

But the article is trying to make us believe that it is a touching someone's feet is "Hindu Thing"

. . .
what this article and Incontinent...hence, adult diaper wearing thread opener don't mention is...

The mayor does not belong to the ruling AL. He is a BNP backed Mayor - and was re-elected by defeating the AL candidate.

The PM, Sheikh Hasina is of course - President of Awami League.

So, this comparison to Tamil Nadu is full of shit - then again, this is the standard of thread one expects from the OP and his sources:lol:

Nah man I'm good not marrying a Ukrainian... I don't think I can find the kind of girl I want in ukraine... they all turn out to be married.
I don't want to marr bd girl especially if she can't speak fluent English as I find myself at ease expressing myself in it.
But if I do eventually end up with one who can I will state this clause with explaination before I get tied down for marriage.
My mom told me the same thing when it came up in a conversation... I told her I hate this and I won't do this. She ofc told me the same thing XD

For some reason my dads boss and seniors always say your son will eventually end up with a Kuwaiti girl. :,)
Then I don't have to have a foot fetish... I can just hug and kiss guys like it's no homo

What about you? You married? Had to do this before? Relented or consequences? Story please :)

Ediyah is your natural born right. They're compelled to give you ediyah on eid. :P

lol!!! Man what a terrible thread...
On a similar topic, if we have to follow on the guidelines as suggested by the Muslim fundamentalist in this forum, than Bangladeshis would have to let go of almost all Bengali customs, no saree or tip for women. No Baishakhi celebration for us... Restrict everything that is fun and live the life of a prisoner in your own country... have 4 wives because that is the only fun you are allowed.
