A 'faith healer' allegedly raped two women in Getha Bathha Town near Rahim Yar Khan, police said.

Faqir Hussain, a resident of Jetha Bathha, filed a report Monday at the Saddar Police Station stating that his daughter and daughter-in-law were raped by Bilal Shah, the 'faith healer', almost two weeks ago, Station House Officer (SHO) Saddar Khanpur Abbas Akhtar told Dawn.

Hussain added his daughter and daughter-in-law routinely visited Shah to get amulets, the SHO added.

He said that, returning from one such visit 15 days ago, his daughter and daughter-in-law told him that they had been raped by Shah, the SHO said.

In his application, Hussain said he had contacted some influential people in the area regarding the matter and due to the pressure exerted by them, Shah offered money or land to the victims.

However, Hussain refused to accept.

A first information report was registered by the police under Section 376 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The two women were sent to District Headquarter Hospital in Khanpur for medical tests while the police began a search operation to arrest Shah.

Do you think dummies don't exist in the US, Canada, Europe, or Japan, leave alone the third world countries? You can find them (many of them apparently educated or many uneducated) rather in abundance even in those developed countries. Having lived in many countries across the globe, I have observed that it is almost impossible to have every member of any society being smart with high IQ levels. Like all other countries in world, Pakistan is no exception. The only difference that I can see in the developed and third world countries like Pakistan and India is the lack of rule of law. Less fortunate members of the societies in developed countries are less prone to the exploitation by the well-off members of their society because the law of the land takes care of the rights of lower echelons of the society. Unlike ours, the rulers in developed countries are generally sincere with their people. Like many other third world countries, we have crooks, liars, cheaters, and exploiters as our leaders. Well, education and mass media are bringing the awareness levels up in our society too. So, we too are progressing slowly. Till we really reach at a higher level of values and attain a stable political system, people like this faith healer will keep making others fool.
